      thanks very much. It was just what I was looking for. Is there a VIN Decoder out there for 4th gen fbodies? I know there is for 3rd gen ones.

        There is not a lot of info to be derived from the VIN. It will tell you if you have a Camaro or a Firebird, A V6 or a V8, whether its a coupe or convertible, and the sequence build number.... but that's about all, and you already know all those things. The real information is on the "build tag", a small white stick-on tag that includes the "codes" for all the items installed on the car. Its usually in the glove box, possibly in the console or on the dirvers door. You need to find that, and then look the codes up in an "RPO" list.

        From this source:

        http://www.f-body.org/oldfaq/html/vins/index.html

        4TH GEN F-BODY VIN BREAKDOWN
        1993 - PRESENT
        1 G 1 F P 2 2 P X S 2 1 0 0 0 0 1
        | | | | | | | | | | | +---------+---> Production Sequence
        | | | | | | | | | | +---------------> Assembly Plant
        | | | | | | | | | | 2 = St. Therese
        | | | | | | | | | +-----------------> Model Year
        | | | | | | | | | P = 1993
        | | | | | | | | | R = 1994
        | | | | | | | | | S = 1995
        | | | | | | | | | T = 1996
        | | | | | | | | | V = 1997
        | | | | | | | | +-------------------> Check Digit
        | | | | | | | +---------------------> Engine Code
        | | | | | | | S = 3.4L V6 (L32) (1993-1995)
        | | | | | | | K = 3.8L V6 (L36) (1995-present)
        | | | | | | | P = 5.7L V8 (LT1) (1993-present)
        | | | | | | +-----------------------> Restraint System
        | | | | | | 1 = Manual belts
        | | | | | | 2 = Manual belts (driv+pass inflatable)
        | | | | | | 3 = Manual belts (driver inflatable)
        | | | | | | 4 = Automatic belts
        | | | | | | 5 = Automatic belts (driver inflatable)
        | | | | | +-------------------------> Body Type
        | | | | | 2 = 2 door coupe (hatchback)
        | | | | | 3 = 2 door convertible
        | | | | +---------------------------> Carline Series
        | | | | Chevrolet:
        | | | | P = Camaro (all models)
        | | | | Pontiac:
        | | | | S = Firebird
        | | | | V = Formula, Trans Am
        | | | +-----------------------------> Carline Code
        | | | F = F-Body
        | | +-------------------------------> Make
        | | 1 = Chevrolet
        | | 2 = Pontiac
        | +---------------------------------> Manufacturer
        | G = General Motors
        +-----------------------------------> Country
        1 = USA
        2 = Canada

        And here's a generic GM RPO code list:

        http://www.9c1.com/technical/rpo_codes.htm

        So you have:

        2 = Canada
        G = GM
        2 = Pontiac
        F = F Body
        V = Formula/TA
        2 = coupe
        2 = manual belts + airbags
        P = 5.7L LT1
        0 = "check" digit
        R = 1994
        2 = St. Therese factory
        2 = place holder for Pontiacs (Camaros have a "1", I believe)
        11359 = your car's production number
