My camaro makes a very loud grinding noise when I down shift from a high rpm/speed. The noise goes away after I let the clutch out. Clutch was done about 3 months ago. I started having this problem about 1 month after the new clutch. It does not make any noises when I am up-shifting though. Could this be synchros? Please help!

Assuming the clutch is fully disengaging, it is an interanal problem in the transmission.
The clutch should disengage pretty close to the top of the pedal. If you have to press the pedal all the way to the floor to get it to release, there could be a problem with the clutch not releasing fully and that may have damaged your transmission..Tracy

Is the noise while you are moving the shifter and stops once it is in gear but before you let the clutch out or does it still make noise after you get it in gear but the clutch is still pushed in. I think I said that right.2002 Electron Blue Vette, 1SC, FE3/Z51, G92 3.15 gears, 308.9 RWHP 321.7 RWTQ (before any mods), SLP headers, Z06 exhaust, MSD Ignition Wires, AC Delco Iridium Spark Plugs, 160 t-stat, lots of ECM tuning

Oh, does it make the grinding noise only when you are putting it in gear or also while it is in gear before you let the clutch out?'77 K5 rock-crawler project

Thanks for the replys everybody! Its 2am so its a little late to check the slave cylinder but I will check first thing in the morning. Answer to your question it makes the grinding noise while going into gear and while it is in gear. Noise goes away as soon as you let the clutch out.

Sounds like It's either the throw out bearing or the input shaft bearing. Did they replace the throw out bearing when they put the clutch in it?2002 Electron Blue Vette, 1SC, FE3/Z51, G92 3.15 gears, 308.9 RWHP 321.7 RWTQ (before any mods), SLP headers, Z06 exhaust, MSD Ignition Wires, AC Delco Iridium Spark Plugs, 160 t-stat, lots of ECM tuning
