  • Transmission Question

Hey everyone, I'm at work now and i leave in 8 hours, and if someone could PLEASE take the time to quickly answer my question i would greatly appreciate it. I have a 1995 Trans Am with an LT1 and 4L60E Transmission, and i just bought it a month ago. I bought it with a bad trans tho, and i need to take my trans and torque converter in to the place tomorrow cuz im gettin new ones, but i need to bring it in for my core deposit. I'm pretty sure on how to take my trans and converter out, but its my first car and i love it and dont want to screw anything up. If someone could please help me out by giving my a quick step by step on how to take out my trans and converter, i would greatly appreciate it cuz i have to do it tonight. Thanx everyone.

You can try this, you need a trans jack to do this tho, i think. This shows how to install a converter, but it also shows how to drop the trans i think. good luck. and welcome.

Nah, i didnt manage to get it out. Basically what happened last friday was i was about to put it in my garage to get started, and what happens, the garage door broke! There was no way whatsoever to get it open. The tracks were bent, how did they bend, no idea! But that meant i was forced to try and work on it on my driveway. if you live around the chicago area, than you would know what the weather was like this past weekend, cold and rainy. So i did as much as i could before the cold rain got to me, and i had to let it sit until monday which was my next chance to work on it. I got to work on it a lil bit, and i worked on it tuesday as well, and now i have one trans-engine bolt left. I actually made a post on how to get it out cuz it was the biggest pain in the arse. But i think i have an idea on how to get it out, so hopefully i can take out my trans tonight, and get my new one tomorrow, and start the fun all over again of putting it in!

Absolutely (they are also sometimes called "wobblers"). And remove the top bolts last so the weight of the tranny will not bend or break the bottom of the bell housing.

It will also greatly help if you have a good floor jack with a tranny adapter, or if you don't have a tranny adapter, just use an old towel folded up to help balance the tranny while you are lowering it.
