Generally the vented is looked on as being better.

However, it's not just a one for one swap. If you're a 93-94 and have a non-vented, you'll need the following for a vented swap:

      95+ timing cover
95+ timing set or aftermarket equvilant
      Vented Opti
Vented Opti electrical wiring harness (some minor fab to the plug is necessary but not hard)
      Vented Opti Vaccuum harness
Lengthened dowel pin on the camshaft to drive the opti.

I want to say that's it, but I could be missing something. The nice thing about the conversion is that you will subsequently have the ability to run an LT4 Extreme Duty or Cloyes true roller timing set.

Optispark is the front-mounted distributor on the Gen 2 SBC LT1 engine, driven off the nose of the cam. In addition to the usual "cap & rotor", it includes an optical cam position sensor. The sensor is obviously critical to the sequential fuel injection timing, in addition to the normal spark timing.

While the optical sensor provides an extremely accurate, low scatter spark timing, the entire distributor is susceptible to moisture buildup and corrosion caused by the ozone generated by the high voltage discharge. And it has a very low quality shaft bearing that can wear prematurely. Often, the moisture comes from the weep holes in the water pump, which is right above the distributor on the front of the engine.

You have a 95. It's vented. That's what you want. Simple.
