  • z28 sounds like chirping bird

My 1995 z28 has a bird chirp sound that is in sync with my timing light flashes.I thought it was a collapsing lifter (may still be that),but when the engine is turned off, the last sound is the chirp shutdown sounding like an ending whistle. There is a definate little knock sound right along with the chirp, kind of a knock-chirp-knock-chirp over and over. It is eminating from the center-passenger side of the engine. The sound is louder than my Flowmaster exhaust!Could I have a lifter that is internally collapsing? With a stethescope, the sound is more knocking, and heard right thru the engine block. The sound was there before and now after major headwork was done.As the rpm's go up,the chirp becomes a more traditional loud tapping sound. The car has 93000 miles of spirited use.I have not detected any exhaust leaks in my quest for cause and solution. There are no trouble codes in the computer other than a historical code 16 ( ign.) .I have heard about a similar valvetrain sound from some Impalas that had sticking valves from incorrect stem seals.
