I have a 97 Camaro, w/ a 3.8L V6. The engine is throwing a code that I don't understand. The code number is P1441. The message says, "Evap Control System Flow During Non-Purge" I don't understand what that means and/or how to fix it. If someone could shed some light on that, that'd be great. Thanks.

There is a carbon canister in the driver's side rear fender. This canister collects the hydrocarbons vented from the gas tank.
When the engine is running, periodically the computer (PCM) will open a purge solenoid near the intake manifold, and allow engine vacuum to pull fresh air in through the carbon canister, picking up the hydrocarbon vapors, and putting them in the intake manifold so they can be burned in the normal combustion sequence.
There is a flow detector in the line from the carbon canister to the purge solenoid. If it detects flow in the purge line, when the purge solenoid is not open, it set P1441.
Could be a cracked rubber hose from the canister to the purge solenoid. Could be a stuck open purge solenoid. Could be a faulty flow detection switch. If it was a V8 I could show you exactly where each component is located, but I don't know the details of the V6.Fred
