If you ban smoking in a private establishment to protect the other people there, then wouldn't you have to ban smoking in every household that has children or another adult that doesn't want to be in the smoke? (Obviously you just shouldn't smoke around them anyway if you're a reasonable person.)

Talk about socialism, but if I had any say as far as smoking around kids goes, there would be a law making smoking in the presence of a child a form of child abuse. Especially when you see parents driving along with a kid in the backseat, the window *cracked* up front and just smoking away. It's one thing for an adult to knowingly and willingly go into an establishment where there is smoking, but to subject a child to it without them being able to do anything about it is just horrible. My mom used to teach pre-school and she would always say how it broke her heart that so many of the kids would come to school every morning just reeking of smoke. Parents like that should be ashamed.

There was a bill to ban smoking in a car that has children in it. I don't remember where or if it passed. I think it was Atlanta.
