  • i cant catch a break... need help

Guys everytime i work on this car i run into a problem of some sort or another. now listen to this one. I started the process of changing my fuel pump. Now i got the rear and exhaust as far down as needed. Then i start to unbolt the tank. One comes of fairly easy. The other one was hard. But then after a while i noticed that i could push the other one up. I believe the weld that holds the nut behind it broke. What do i do????

    thanks alot. -ken-

Sounds like you will have to drill it out.

First let me say that youre not the only one. I am the only one who can have 4 cars to drive and have 3 out of the 4 broken. My bird is down with the crank job, my omni is blown up beyond recognition, and just today the starter went on my Jeep My 30 yr old GTO is the only reliable car I have lately....

Anyways, first soak the bolt in PB blaster for a few hours. Then pry down on the strap to "load" the stud as you turn the nut. Sometimes this resistance is just enough to hold the stud from turning as you wrench on it. An impact gun helps out alot too.

If this doesnt work, you can cut the strap, drop the tank and then get the stud out. Then you have to get a new strap and stud from the dealer.

I'm right there with you. The GN is down, the Fiero is down with a broken timing set, the a/c on the T/A is still broke so i'm not driving it, the 89 Deville with over 205k miles is still going stong with cold a/c too. There are a few times that all cars are working fine, times when of them work. Par for the course, my friend.
