  • my baby is gone!!!!!!

so i come home from work yesterday, and i decided to work on the ride a lil bit. I couldnt do it in my garage, so i jacked up my car on my driveway, yes MY DRIVEWAY as in my property, and i put it on 4 jackstands. I was doing just some basic wiring, and replacing some things cuz it was just on the list of things to do since i got my car, and i realized that i needed to buy a couple things from a hardware store. I took out a couple motor mounts and my engine was tilted back for a lil extra clearance that i needed, but i still had a jack under it for safety and logic also for that matter. So, instead of bringing down my whole car, i left it on my stands on my property and ran to the hardware store. I come back, and my car is GONE!!!!!!! all that remained were the jackstands and the jack, nothing else. Immediately i thought someone stole it, but then i realized that i havent put my new trans in yet, so its gonna be kinda hard to steal. Thats when i figured that it had to have been towed. My neighbors came out and confirmed it, so i call the town. The town tells me that it was towed because it was a hazard because it had no wheels. This is where i got really pissed now, cuz i was convinced that my wheels were stolen also, and i got a lil pissed (as in my hand is killing me right now cuz i punched a hole right through my basement door!) So i go to town hall, and they told me the tow truck driver took a pic of the car right before he towed it, and what was on my car....ALL 4 WHEELS!!!! So the supposed reason why they towed it was false!!! Then they change the story to that someone called it in. I told them that it was clearly on my property, and that the tow truck literally had to come on to my property to take my car, and they said i was wrong. At this point i went to the impound lot and looked at my car. THANK GOD that i can get lazy at times, and that i didnt feel to totally disconnect all of my motor mounts cuz i dont even wanna think what would have happened if i did, being that they towed it without a flatbed also. So i take a look at my car, and my back bumper is beyond loose, and i see a couple scratches under it, other than that though, everything appeared ok. I still am worried tho to what may have happened with my engine. So anyways, i requested that my case be under review by a town detective, and i also proceeded to get my attorney involved. Basically what happened is that i brought up that by town law, before i am towed that they are required to give me a written warning, which they never did based on the fact they considered it a hazard, even though i had wheels on it. Also they came on to my property as well, and on top of that, the truck driver personally told me that he didnt want to tow it. He felt it was secure and posed no threat whatsoever to anyone, but he said that his boss threatened him with his job if he didnt do it, so obviously he did. Anyways, so not too long ago i received a letter from the town saying that they looked at my engine and nothing was wrong. When a car is in an impound lot, they have the right to search anything UNLESS the reason for impound is under review (like my case) in which at that point they need authorization from the primary owner (myself) which they never asked me for. Being that was in a letter they faxed me, they just screwed themselves over. The said all they could do is drop all the supposed "charges" on me and i wouldnt have to pay the impound fee or towing fee. So later today, my baby will be towed back to my house. But, since the detective stated that the town broke 4 laws (no written warning, trespassing on my property, illegally searching my car which was locked by the way, and wrongfull accusation with my car having no wheels), and i broke not one law, that he feels that i should take further action. My attorney suggested that i sue the town, and try and shoot for an out of court settlement. The way i look at it, the town knows they are wrong if theyre giving me back my car without having to pay. The govt will take your money any chance they can get, and they wouldnt just give up on 300 bucks like that for nothing. So, im sorry, i just had to vent. Not too many of my friends realizes what its like not to have your ride! Even tho i wasnt driving it cuz it has no tranny, i still like to wax it, clean out the interior, and look at it with an obsession (its a problem i have!) But on a better note, i got the call today and my new heavy duty trans is ready!!!!!! Longest week ever! So, i think i'll be alot happier tonight when shes back in the garage and im startin out with the new trans! Also, i wanted to install a good trans cooler, nothing too special, but something for the every so often brake torque Any suggestions on what type of cooler? If you're reading this, thanx for taking the time to actually read my frustrations, and thanx in advance to everyone who can gimme a lil help on the trans cooler.

Absolutely. I fix my cars in my garage all the time. I had my car sitting on stands an entire day to do a brake job. I cannot even imagine the city coming and confiscating it. I would be hopping mad, and out for blood.

LOL!!! I find DJ's reply quite hilarious...Cicero...plain and simple. If any of you live in chicago or near the chicago land area, you can definitely understand what he was saying. Cicero does have a little bit of corruption in our towns history (just a lil bit). As a matter of fact, one of Al Capone's apartments was in Cicero, a block and a half away from my house! And our last town president is now in a federal prison for stealing MILLIONS of dollars from the town over a 25 year time period or so. The town is corrupt, but i already beat it once by getting my car back and paying nothing, and now its time to go for the their throats. I def want a lil extra $ for my baby, she needs a couple new toys . But yeah, i totally agree with all of you, this is beyond outrageous, like i couldn't believe that it actually happened. But my car is coming back and i got a new trans, so i gotta feel good about that! And Thomas, that's horrible about your lexus, i could never imagine my car being stolen, i would flip! I just dont understand why there are people like that out there. I mean of all things, dont mess with someones ride, thats just cruel. But i hope the best for you, hopefully everything will work out with your insurance...and...whats that i hear...time to buy a new car....2002 WS6

That is the most jacked-up thing I have heard in a long time. WTF!!! The city where I live just nailed one of my neighbors for having vehicles on the "landscaping". It is a fenced carport with rock down. The wind broke the gate so, since it was visible, the city decided to site him for it. What a bunch of BS. It seems as though people would have something better to do then stuff like this.

That is so ridiculous! The way I look at it, they were ready to $crew you so now it's time to $crew them. Go after anyone and everyone who was involved.....the town, the mayor, the city council, the tow truck operator, the towing company, etc. Tell your lawyer to go for the jugular!
