  • throughout bearing

How long do these last, I am replacing my clutch (the guy before me didn't know how to drive) and stuff is getting very expensive. A throughout bearing at advance Auto Parts is between $110- $140. Do I really need to replace it? The car only has 65k on it, it shouldn't be that bad.
    2001 Black WS6 6-spd, 47k. stock...I think.

    Yes, Yes, Yes

As a rule you want to change all three components (Disc, Pressure Plate, Throwout Bearing) when you are in there, if not chances are you will be back in there. It would be kind of like changing your oil filter and not the oil....

....alright, aleast it sounds the same.

Anyway, I just convinced the dealer (who I bought the car off of) to not use the GM parts $260 pressure plate and $260 clutch. I just ordered the SLP clutch becuase the dealer was going to have to get a throughout bearing $180 from GM. The total cost outweighted the $372.85 of the SLP kit so he opted to order from SLP. Was this a wise choice? I thought SLP used this clutch in the firehawk and WS6 anyway?

Good choice with the SLP stuff. For daily driving in a mostly stock car it works very well. I have that same setup in my car.

slp does nothing to the clutch in the firehawk, the SS, or the CompTA..its the stock gm unit..........they only built the ws6 in 96 and 97...ASC did it 98-2002...and again...the clutch was not touched by either tier 1's.

The PP in the SLP clutch is different, it has heavy duty fingers and is drilled for better heat dissipation. The disk is the same, and i think the TOB is the same too.

I have pictures of the SLP one to compare to the stock one if you like.

Here is a link to a place that shows side by side differences between the SLP clutch and the stocker. This is what made me pick it over a stock replacement.
