    Is it better to have a wider tire like a 255/50 or a thinner one like a 245/50? Seems like the more rubber is on the road the better.

    It depends on the rim width. If you put a tire that is too wide for a rim, it will turn up on the side and not wear in the center and the 2 sides. You have to go by the rim width.

      agree with Jeff. In general, more rubber on the road is better, but if you don't have the correct setup, it can actually hurt you. 255 is probably the absolute widest you can go on an 8" rim. If you step up to 17x9, you could go 285.
