Even though supreme is $2.00 here, I'll still participate. I can remember a couple of years ago gas was only $1.25. What makes it so funny, is all the oil from Iraq seems to raise the prices instead of lower them

whats really funny is that WE DONT GET OIL FROM IRAQ, we havent for something like 15 years. so the war in iraq isnt affecting the oil. we arent getting any more or less from over there. its the american oil companies and local gas stations that are jacking the price on us

Not true. Certain companies do sell Iraqi oil. Shell is one of them!

However, the reason gas prices are out of whack is pure politics. The opec countries can set prices to whatever they want, it's their product and they don't want our current president in office. This is why the spike in gas prices.... to make the economy as weak as possible leading up to the election. This is their way of casting their vote, this is simple world politics.

Not buying gas for a day won't have any affect whatsoever on prices. You don't think the Oil Companies care one bit do you? They know you still drive your car so you will fill up sooner or later and their sales won't be affected one iota! Now if we had a national "do not drive your car day", that would get a lot of attention especially if it was a work day and people didn't go to work because of it. That would have a major impact on our economy!!!!

This has been done the past couple of years every time gas prices get high. It never has any effect. As mentioned earlier, if you're still driving your car, you're still using gas, so you'll just fill up the next day. Americans should be thankful gas is ONLY $2.00/gallon. Most counties tax it so much they pay in excess of $4-5/gal. That's why european cars are usually smaller with better gas mileage.

I was thinking earlier tonight.....Joe B. has a point there.

But if bush is voted out will the prices REALLY come down??? The oil companies might say that americans have become accustomed to the price level so it'll just stabilize at a permanent $2 per gallon. Or come down ten cents.

Sure I am mad about the whole thing. Bush is not doing a thing to exert any political pressure on the OPEC or the industry and that's just screwing us.

If you want to associate "blame", then blame China. They are second to the USA in oil consumption and will pass us in the near future. Supply and demand in effect. And OPEC controlling supply creates more demand, making it more expensive.

Here in London, gasoline is 80 pence per liter.

£1 = $1.83 right now... so basically double that cost. $1.60 per liter.... 3.8 liters in one gallon... roughly translated that comes to $5 or so per gallon.

We have nothing to complain about.

It is a little known fact that OPEC, "in it's corncern over rising prices" , has already agreed to do what it can to increase production and the effect should be realized by November . Funny coincidence, eh? Trash the economy in an election year right up until just before the election when this country's voting direction would already be well established and terribly hard to turn at such a late stage. It's just enough pressure to influence the general public. Seems to me, the same thing happened last time.

well, my theory is as such:
Everyone knows by now that gas prices are going to go up in the middle of a "war" OR in the begining of summer. But that is all coincidence from the war. The gas companies know that everyone expects prices to rise, so thats what they do and people just go with it.
Thats what the NO gas day is about. I am sick of it, as are other people. Its not supposed to really bring down the corprate companies, its to bring them down for 1 day to give them something to think about.
For those of you who trashed on me before, why not just contribute to it? Do you REALLY need to buy gas on the 19th? is that in your weekly schedual, just put $10 in the night before.

What part of this do you not understand.... as long as you buy gas, whether you buy it on the 18th, the 19th or the 20th, you are not affecting supply and demand by one iota. If you are serious about bringing down gasoline prices, get a car that gets 50MPG and get all your friends to do the same. Or park you car and take public transportation. But you are living in a dream world if you think the day of the week you buy the same amount of gasoline will have any affect at all.

This definately wont work, but I can tell you one thing, ill be driving my 4 banger jeep for a lot of the summer......filling the bird at 2.20 a gallon sucks. I think a lot of people will be more conservative on gas.......maybe driving the price down a bit?

I've gotten this e-mail 3 times this week. Ugh

I really want to put the 6spd in my car. With the 2.73's I should get really good gas mileage.
