  • LTs with cats?

Can I run long tube headers with cats? Everyone who seems to post with long tubes usually states "no cats". Can I install them with cats? Also - I plan on running an ORY pipe - can I do this with cats as well?

Does the answers to these questions depend on brands I select?

i dont see why u wouldnt be able to run a cat since it is after the header anyways...and it is after the collector so it really has nothing to do with the header at all

i think they may just run no cats to improve the the back pressure

      Oh geeze...

OK... the reason it is called an "off-road y-pipe" is because it has no cats... not legal on the roads, hence "off-road".

Yes, you can run cats with long tube headers. All an off-road pipe really is is a tubular extension for the y-pipe to mate it to the headers, where a catalytic converter would normally go.

Now I feel stupid I was going to ask what makes them "off road" - LOL. I just thought they were not flattened like the stock pipes. I will crawl back under the rock I live under.

Its possible. I had a buddy with a 02 SS and he was running the long tubes with cats. Street legal and everything running the 12.24 without BOOST. So yes its possible. Just going to be questionable as to where you get them installed as well as who, but it can be done.

              Install them yourself, Casey!

LOL... Man I have done headers myself on a 93 z, and the most recent one was on a 96 z. The 93 was a bit easier. It toke me, my brother and a friend 3 days. Not bad for the first time considering we only spent an hour or so a day. The 96 z, me and a buddy slapped those things on in one day. None stop for a good 5-8 hours. Welded the cat bracket on to the y pipe myself. Was not that great of a weld considering I was tired of holding my head up when I was laying under the car for hours on end, and just to add, these two installations were both done in a driveway. So your best bet is to do it on a lift. It will be the best thing.

Yeah, a few buddies and I used the lift at my on-campus work. Couldn'thave done it without it... took about 8 hours total.
