That may not exactly be true. Depending on the ride height of the rear, the angle of the panhard rod can be changed to provide a more stable rear axle as the rear end loads and unloads. Ideally you want the panhard rod parallel to the rear axle. Unfortunatly, that usually isn't the case. From the factory, the panhard rod is higher on the chassis end than the differential end. This causes a slight centering change as the rear end squats. There is also the benefit of more room to run true dual exhaust pipes over the rear axle.
