Hi all, Is anybody here running a supercharger? If so wich one?

I have an 87 with the Tuned Port 305 (MAF system) Why does Paxton and Vortech start there supercharger listings from 1988 and up? What happened to 87? Is anybody in here running a supercharger on an 87? Maybe I need to convert to a speed density sytem first I dunno. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help at all.

I have a Powerdyne BD-550 centrifugal supercharger that I need to get rid of cheap. Has about 5,000 miles on it, and is barely used. My friend had a shop put it on his 2000? Nissan Pathfinder, but they could not tune the computer properly, and it was idleing horribly. He decided to go back to stock, and pulled it all out. All I have is the Supercharger Head unit, and a 12:1 FMU. The supercharger was from the 96-98 Mustang GT kit (2valve). I cleaned it up a little bit, polished the intake, and it has been sitting around for like 6months collecting dust.

I called Powerdyne support, and they offered no real help at all. All they said was it wouldn't fit.... I was going to fabricate some brackets, and custom fit it, but have not had the time. Let me know if you are interested, otherwise it is going up on ebay. I have to pay off some parts I ordered on my credit card, so I will take a loss and let it go for $350 shipped, including the FMU.

Oh, I think it has the 6.5psi pulley on it.

            heres the deal

I called Vortech today, Apparently the only reason they don't list their supercharger to fit the 87 is because of the factory V-belt setup of the 87 motor. They wont gaurantee the fitment but it may be possible to convert to the 88 style seprentine belt setup.

In case anyone is interested The complete kit part# for the vortech supercharger is #4GF218-060sq

Does anyone sell a kit to convert from 87 v-belt to a true factory 88-92 sepentine style belt setup?

              All you need is....

              A junkyard and some time...

for the conversion to serpentine. The one gotcha, is that the water pump rotates in the other direction. The v-belt WP is clockwise rotation, and the serp is a counter-clockwise pump. The 88 and later motors used a set of brackets that bolted to the block and heads and held all the accessories. They can be taken off fairly easily, with the exception of the power steering pump, which you will have to remove the pulley to get off the bracket. 305, 350s all use this setup in the f-cars, and so might the light trucks with those motors. GM tends to be modular in this space, and has a tendency to reuse parts like this everywhere that they can. Hope that helps
