  • Clutch whining???

OK, I own a 67' Firebird, I can work on it with no problems. I just traded my 91 Chevy Silverado Monster truck for a 95 Camaro...
My problem is this....The truck, like my Firebird(455) was a Hot Rod, it had a 350 crate motor that was easy for me to work on if needed. Now the 95 Camaro is starting to frustrate me like crazy...there is an annoying whining noise coming from underneath my floorboard (I would say the trans, clutch, etc.)
When the car is not in motion at a red light, I hold the clutch to the floor while in first gear ( for the green light), and it whines, I take it out of gear and it stops. It does this in 2nd gear also sometimes. It seems worse first thing in the morning when the car hasn't been drivin in a while. Sometimes later after alot of driving, it stops. I really hate it if there is an issue with the trans, cause i will have to pay the dealer to fix it. I needed a car to haul my kids around safely, and I wasn't buyin a freakin import, so the camaro was my choice (my third one by the way...82/83 pacecar & 87). I would've gotten a new firebird, but I despise those flip up lights!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, I can't do alot with the newer F-body, there's toooo much goin on under the hood. I'm use to carburated monsters, I can't spend much time getting to know the new one, so I'd like to avoid spending too much on a diagnoses at the dealer, so if anyone can help here, that would be great. Depending on what may be the issue, I might be able to do the job myself. I just need to be pointed in the right direction by someone that has experienced this before.
Thanx for any help you may be able to provide....

Welcome to the board. While I can't help you with your question, I'm sure plenty of guys here can. It's great to have new people, especially women.. there aren't that many here.

I like yor car. I love my 67, I would have a newer 'bird' now but I don't think the lights are attractive in the open position. I've seen so many stck open or shut or one down, one up, etc. A girlfriend of mine has a 98, she lost her left light cover. I am prolly the biggest 'bird' person on the planet and I still can't get past that one issue. HAHA

I don't like the new light style for the new camaro's either, makes the car look like a sler...ugh!

Yor car is very nice, my camaro is all black w/grey/blk interior. My tag bears my name...Raven...although it's spelled...RAVVEN on the tag because soomeone else in this state already had RAVEN. ?????????

My truck had SZDSMTR (SiZe DoeS MaTteR) instead of SZDZMTR. Someone already had it. My truck was huge.

Of course, I'd rather put my 'bird name on my 'bird, but it's not black yet. I will be painting it blk with my tattoo art drawing of a Raven out of ghost flames. Very uniqe and one of a kind, (until now, now that all reading this just got my idea LOL)

I will post pix on my home page when I think to take pix of it again.

My first guess without having hands on would be either the fork or the throwout bearing. By pushing in the clutch, you are disconnecting any gearing from the transmission, there will be nothing rotating internally. The fork and bearing are carring the load when the clutch is depressed.
