  • Volume knob on 97TA doesn't work anymore...

I searched the forums and I didn't find anything on this one.

My stereo's volume knob is very erratic now. When I turn it up, it goes down, or does nothing at all. If you turn it really slow sometimes it will work.

I saw something on a website that services these Delco radios, that said they would fix it for $100some dollars.

I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix it themselves? Is it just a pot. that needs to be replaced, under the volume knob? Sounds like something simple, that maybe I could just order the part and solder it in.

I haven't ripped it apart yet to see what the volume knob consists of.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

our Hawk does the same thing... if you push in on it slightly and turn slowly..it works fine......

      is it a monsoon system?

I test drove two 98 TA's before I got my 99' last fall, all three had the same problem with the volume knob....I just use the steering wheel controls now.

I think all ACdelco stereos do that. My 92 Formula did it. My 97 TA does it, and my mother in law's Avalanche does it. I always use my steering wheel controls anyway.

I test drove a 93 formula with the same problem, the guy who owned it said he used the equalizer to turn the volume up and down.

same here...my gta that had a head from a 98 ta did it and my ta now does it...

weird man...like ken said..just push it down slightly and turn. I think they did it so you don't accidentally turn it up or something along that line.

I know they didn't let millions of headunits go out with a faulty knob...

                  Nah

It used to work, but then it slowly stops working. I think the potentiometer gets worn out, or corroded. It is a problem with the head units, I should try to complain to crapy Delco and get it fixed!!
