...but let's say they were actually turning at 1000 RPMs...

by math that is 23,108.8 ft-lbs of torque per locomotive!!!!!

HP = (Torque*RPM)/5252

Since that is less than 1,000 RPMs, it is actually more than 23,108.8 ft-lbs... think about THAT at the tree...
