  • NFB: Pittsburgh Pirate swings bat at Brewer's mascot

For those of you that haven't heard or seen this, it sounds viscious doesn't it? Well it wasn't. It was a playful little joke, a half-effort powder-puff joke of a swing. And in my opinion, it was frickin hilarious to watch a 6-foot-tall foam hotdog fall down while running a race againt a bratwurst. The mascots ran right in front of the Pittsburgh dug-out, and when they did, a Pirate gave the hotdog a love tap, knocking it down and into the bratwurst next to it.

The Pittsburgh player was handcuffed and actually taken for questioning, and might even face criminal charges! The girl in the costume wasn't injured, she had a scraped knee... an unfortunate, yet insignificant consequence to a very funny event. Rick Schlessinger, Brewers' executive vice president for business operations, called Simon's conduct "one of the most outrageous things I've ever seen inside a ballpark or outside a ballpark. It sickened me to see it."

Get a life. Seriously... have we become that politically correct and oversensitive? We have lost all ability to laugh at ourselves, and that's pathetic. You shouldn't take yourself that seriously, if you can't laugh at yourself and your misfortunes sometimes, then I wonder if you are a very happy person. I do stupid stuff, we all do stupid stuff... most of the time, I am good-natured enough to laugh at myself when it happens. I'm sorry, but if I was dressed as a 6-foot foam hotdog - which is funny just by itself - and I got knocked down into a giant foam bratwurst, I could appreciate the humor in that. Apparently, the Milwaukee Brewers can't and they seriously need to learn how to take a joke.

Correction: He hit the Italian sausage over the head, and knocked it into the hot dog. The Polish Sausage and Bratwurst escaped unscathed from the "sickening" behavior. Whew!

Sounds to me like they should have a cookout.

It looked to me like a little pat on the back/good job gesture by the Pirate! I personally think the hotdog dramatize the whole fall thing.

We had those costumes at work (at Briggs & Stratton in Milwaukee) this spring and I can tell you they are hard to run in. My friend was wearing the brat outfit and he was totally out of control during the whole race. One tap and he would have bit the dust - I really don't think the pirate player was being as belligerant as he was trying to be funny - it just turned out bad. Odd thing is the chick who went for a tumble is enjoying all the attention, and she doesn't seem any worse off for the extra action. He shouldn't have done it, but that shouldn't make it a felony offense...

The bleeding heart liberals are just getting so damn carried away with "POLITICAL CORRECTNESS" its just getting ridiculous!

I lived in Milwaukee back in 1984 when Milwaukee played St. Louis in the World Series (Brewers lost in 7 games). Six months later, a journalist discovered that the County Deputy Sheriffs had escorted a number of city aldermen into some of the games, who didn't have tickets......well, because of this HUGE scandal, the Sheriff resigned.

Just another day in a PC society...... especially in Milwaukee. Your tax dollars at work.
