The real information is on the "build tag", a small white stick-on tag that includes the "codes" for all the items installed on the car. Its usually in the glove box, possibly in the console or on the dirvers door. You need to find that, and then look the codes up in an "RPO" list.

    | | | | | | 5 = Automatic belts (driver inflatable)
    | | | | | +-------------------------> Body Type
    | | | | | 2 = 2 door coupe (hatchback)
    | | | | | 3 = 2 door convertible

    | | | | Chevrolet:
    | | | | P = Camaro (all models)

    1 = USA
    2 = Canada

    And here's a generic GM RPO code list:

    http://www.9c1.com/technical/rpo_codes.htm

    So you have:

    2 = Canada
    G = GM
    2 = Pontiac
    F = F Body
    V = Formula/TA
    2 = coupe
    2 = manual belts + airbags
    P = 5.7L LT1
    0 = "check" digit
    R = 1994
    2 = St. Therese factory
    2 = place holder for Pontiacs (Camaros have a "1", I believe)
    11359 = your car's production number
    How do i figure out what resistor number my key is? The key companies asked for my VIN#, is it in there or on the RPO#'s?

    Neither. They have to reference it with GM. They can look up a VIN to see what code it uses. Usually if you go to a dealer, he has a little box that can read your existing key to make a new one. It can also plug into the car and read it there as well. If you are completely without, then they do a call to GM. This is how it was explained to me from a dealership. Your mileage may vary. HTH.

      Or you can read the key with a meter and determine it yourself.

        Extra Key

        I bought a new key (on ebay), and they sent me the wrong resistor #, so i bought a key from someone else. The ebay people expect me to pay for shipping BOTH ways because THEY messed up! I gave them everything they requested down to the T, so i dont feel like i should have too. ANYWAYS... If anyone wants/needs a spare key of resistor # 12 PLEASE PM me, ill sell it for $26 shipped to anywhere in the US (just to cover my costs... im not making a penny). The keys usually sell for $60-80 from the dealers, when i went down they wanted $65... Key is still uncut.

        You can find out your resistor # by going to any GM dealership (im sure you guys know) but you will need your ID and proof of ownership.

          I bought a key from a local shipping place for $20. That sounds a little expensive.

            Yeah, the dealer made me a key for $20-ish a few years ago.
