  • What battery?

I am in the market for a new battery, what would everyone recommend for a daily driver? Thanks.

I would highly advise NOT to get one made by Exide. That includes Sears Die Hards. Every one I have had or seen has leaked and corroded something. I wish I had a list of what batteries they make that they put some one else's name on but I don't. I have been using AutoZone batteries for about 5 years now and I haven't seen any sign of leaking.

    1995 Z28, many mods, SOLD

I had bad results with an Optima Red Top.... lasted less than 6 months. The shop that was building my engine replaced it with an AC/Delco Professional, and its been fine for 4 years.

I have always gone with whatever was the cheapest at Autozone or Advance Auto. I had an AA battery crap out once but they replaced it for free. I had a 5 yr Autozone battery last 7 years, cost me $39. Drove the car everyday.

I've heard good things about Interstate batterys. I have one in my Z.

Been using Delco's for a long time now, problem free. I wouldn't take an exide if you gave it to me for free.

welp...if you're into saving some money, do this.

I got a battery from Walmart...don't leak or anything, problem free for awhile now...since they have a replacment plan, all you do is save your receipt and you can get a brand new one every two years...

              their made by ever-start.

I wanted to get optimas cuz they look cool but everyone I talked to say they suck...and as long as a battery isn't made by exide, I'm cool wit it.

I bought an Exide NASCAR Select from Wal-Mart about 5 years ago. I'm pretty sure their batteries are Exide. I probably should say used to be. I don't shop there any more. (land stealing blankity blanks)

The one I am replacing is an Interstate. The guy that had the car before me probably didn't put the terminal protection on it, and the bolts/terminals where filthy. I got a Duralast Gold from AZ, and the problem starting it when warm is gone now. Thanks for the help everyone.

I guess I'll have to defend my Optima then. I've had a red top in my car since 1998, still going strong.

I've had good luck with Interstate and Walmart.
                        Bad luck with Sears Diehards.

A buddy of mine had an Optima Red Top hanging sideways under the back of the car, near the spare tire well. It was about 5 years old when he replaced it, and was still OK.... he only replaced it because he went to a 16V system. That's why I assumed the Red Top would work for me.

Yet the shop that does my work (and his) has a battery grave yard and about 2/3 of the batteries are Optimas.

I think maybe it didn't like the fact that the car sat in the garage so much, unused, being worked on, or simply not being driven on the street. Since then I have been using a "Battery Tender" and the AC/Delco seems to be holding up.

I believe the exact same thing, they do not hold up well if there not used everyday, or at least every 3-4 days. I've had nothing but problems with my Red Tops, but they keep replacing them for free. So I really can't argue with that.

My 95 TA has the original battery, and when it craps out, I'll get another one just like it. I am a believer in the small automatic chargers too. I have them on the 2 bikes & the TA - everything except the daily driver.
