67 gto help needed
my friend has a67 gto witch has spun a bearing on a half shaft he has been told that the shaft is shot and must be replaced. he thinks the axle is a 10 bolt with out c clips or a posi does this sound right if so where can he get a replacement from and can he upgrade to a posi or locker many thanks bigtow. i know this is a f body site but you guys are the most knoligible group i have found

By "half-shaft" I assume you mean "axle". Generally an axle bearing would have to be pretty well shot (demolished) to damage the shaft. If it was that bad, your axle probably would have fallen out of the car because the bearings are the only thing holding the axles in on the GTO. I suppose the bearing may have spun arround the shaft, grooving it out???? Maybe thats what happened?
It is very likely you have a 10 bolt without c-clips. It is a press on bearing. It may or may not be a posi. If it is not a posi, you can change the carrier and get a posi carrier and new gears - it will bolt into your housing.

Your friend has a 8.5 inch ten bolt. These are very common, they can be upgraded to a posi by replacing the standard carrier with a limited slip unit. There are several options, I would recommend an Eaton. It is a good choice for dragstrip type traction, still unlocks quietly around corners and is rebuildable.
He thinks ???? all he has to do is count the rear cover bolts and if there is a posi, there should be a tag affixed to one of the rear cover bolts notating the need for limited slip additive.
