  • Aftermarket Tranny Mount?

    Guys,

I need to find an aftermarket tranny mount for my 1994 25th anniversary.

So far i've just tried Summit and the salesman told me that he didn't have anything to fit the LT1 (and that energy suspension models really wouldn't work).

    Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

GM has used basically one transmission mount for almost all their cars, for the last 40 years. I replaced the stock mount on my 6-speed 94 Formula with an Energy Suspension polyurethane mount, and it worked fine. 6 years later, the same mount is still supporting my TH400/Gear Vendor combo.

Some people - particularly those with A4's - seem to feel the ES mount introduces too much vibration. For those people, GM makes what is called the "1LE" mount... a slightly firmer than stock, stronger rubber mount.

Shoebox has some interesting info comparing the stock, 1LE and ES mounts on his website. I've heard the rumors about the ES unit being too tall for the LT1, but there are 1,000's of people using it with no problems at all.

I'm going to have a shop replace the mount for me and i'm afraid that if i hand him the ES, he'll tell me that it doesn't fit and the car will sit there (but the 1LE is just as tall as the ES)

Since i have the A4, would you say that i should just go with the 1LE or should i take the chance? I was hoping to get one that wasn't rubber, so i'm starting to lean towards buying the ES anyway...

      Thanks for the help

What the crap? i went to the drag strip last night... it was completely empty and i could have run my car at least ten times but on my second run "Clunk" sure enough tranny mount is split,

I have gone through my share of tranny mounts... They used to last an average of 2 months. Then I bought the 1LE from SLP. I have about 2 years of abuse on the SLP and it is still good.

I've used the ES mount on my last two 4th gen f-bods when the stocker gave up and had no problems whatsoever. There is a decent bit more vibration but no big deal for me. Heck my cutout causes waaay more vibes than the poly tranny mount. I think you can even get these at autozones, Advance Auto parts, any speed shop, etc. I would hate to wait the time it takes for SLP to send one.....Good Luck

do you think that the vibrations are unbearable (or too noticeable) if my car is pretty much stock?

ive had the es mount in my ta for about three years now and i really didnt notice anymore vibration than with the stock mount. the vibration probably only comes when more power is added. if your pretty much stock i dont think vibration will be a problem

For me, it was way past unbearable. I couldn't get it changed fast enough.

I noticed a slight increase in noise/vibration even with the 1LE. It is a firmer rubber that has lasted me several years. My Z has the ES bushing and I have to say it transmits more noise. For a daily driver I would stay with the 1LE, but perhaps I'm too critical.

Thanks guys. I think that i'm going to split the difference and go with the 1LE.

Now, where's the best place to order it? Is it something that Dal at Van Devere can get for me?

I just called to order the part, but figured that i'd check Summit one more time and they have one from Prothane that's $20.

I called the Prothane number and the rep said that Part #7-1604 is made for the F-body's LT1. Now i've got to look into that.

Anyone ever used the Prothane model?

Thanks, but i'm up north. I'll order the Prothane if you think it's better than the 1LE.

You didn't like the ES because of vibration, do you like the Prothane model?
