I got the Z out for a late night cruise Saturday night with my Brother riding shotgun. I dont get out much like that anymore with the family responsibilities I have. It was perfect out, and the top was down.

Just after leaving my house, I pull onto the main road next to a Ford SVT Lightning. It had drag radials on it and whistled as it cruised along. We turned left onto the highway and he smoked me 0-60 by 5 car lengths. I shutdown at 65(speed limit), but he kept going. Man was that thing fast.

Then after a couple hours of cruising I'm on my way home on that same road. I notice a mustang behind me. He changes lanes to pass, and stabbs it. I hit it when he is next to me and eliminated his lead quickly, then began pulling away from him. I soon as I saw him falling back I shut down. He obviously couldnt keep up and there was no need rub it in harder. (or risk a ticket)

It was a 96-98 Cobra. It was black and looked sweet, but couldnt touch my Z. At the next light we complimented each others cars and went out seperate ways. One of his comments was "that sucked" referring to the race he lost. I told him it didnt matter, he still has a really nice car.

    1 win
    1 loss

I had a C5 convertible behind me on a two-lane road yesterday... the car in front of me turned left, so I had to wait for him to turn. I got on the gas casually from a stop, but in the middle of first gear, I realized the guy in the Vette was riding my tail inviting me to punch it...

...hehehe... by the time I grabbed third I was pulling away pretty hard, lol. Once I saw that I shut her down...

I was surprised also. I'm starting to think maybe it wasnt a real cobra. It had cobra wheels and emblems, but the bumper didnt say cobra on it. It also had clear headlights like a cobra. It sounded awsome, like it has a performance exhaust on it.

            Clear headlights?

I am fairly sure that the 96-98 Cobras did say "Cobra" on the bumpers... I think it is the 98-02s Cobras that say "Mustang"... and of course the 03 and 04s have COBRA in BIG, BOLD letters.

Mustangs with aftermarket exhaust always sound so good... it isn't fair...

Yeah.. the lenses were stal clear. I remember buying a set of clear cobra lights for my 94 GT I used to have. They look alot better than the regular ones.

The mid-90s cobras weren't really that fast. A friend has one, it does have clear headlights & cobra on the bumper. It also has a small SVT logo just left of the license plate. He has some minor mods, including a nice exhaust system. He raced a 01 SS and a SRT4 on the interstate... The SRT4 pulled away from him... As the neon got to be about 4 or 5 car lengths ahead, the SS was pushing 15-20 car lengths...

Nice kill! So true on the sound of Mustangs - although I did hear a couple of F-Bodies at the recent club gathering in Cols that would give them all a run!

I tangled with an Evo 8 on the interstate last weekend. I was behind him in the passing lane - trucks as far as you could see in the right lane. A truck had moved over into the passing lane and got stuck and the Evo was right in front of me. We were doing ~55-60 in a 70 MPH zone. I just knew he would hit it as soon as traffic cleared so I downshifted to 4th. I was right and could not keep my foot under control. I stayed right on his tail - just showing him he could not pull away. Truthfully I was only running about 3/4 throttle and was in his tailpipe. He probably thought I couldn't pass him - I just realized how fast we were going and immediately shut down - momentary lapse of reason! I still think those cars are sweet. 60 MPH - ?? is not their forte.

Sorry to highjack the thread - it kind of moved to "kills" -

Man, Casey... at 55-60, you should have grabbed third. I absolutely love the punch in 3rd gear between 70-75.

I tangled with a WRX STi in the same type of situation and left him 4 cars back by the middle of fourth.

That's hilarious - that is EXACTLY what the guys in the local club told me! But I didn't need it - I was pushing the guy as it was. I still drive it like my LT1 I guess - the upper RPM power on the LS1 is soooo nice.
