  • raced a vette

A buddy of mine has a 84 or 85 vette. Its an auto and has that crossfire intake thing on it. Stock is like 205hp or something. He put another intake manifold on it, i guess there is only one aftermarket kit for the crossfire...he had exhaust...no cats, but two flowmasters....a cam...and thats about it.

We do the three honk thing at about 10 mph, cause of traffic (no one was infront of us for miles, however there was a car comming up behind us...it was a big road four lanes and a massive turning lane in the middle...it was safe for 0-60 racing). Anyways when I honked for the third timei gunned it and killed him in first, however in second he was passing me and finally over took me. It was close he says, but he had me all the time past 2nd. I looked down after the race and noticed my A/C was on (tyring to keep the engine cool on the way there).

would the A/C affect my car that much? Or does his mods increase the hp a lot?

He said he ran a 14.5 stock before the mods. Is this a factory freak? he couldn't believe he beat me, he thought I would walk all over him.
    2001 Black WS6 6-spd, 47k. stock...I think.

First, you were racing his game. From 0-60 they perform pretty well, after that they tend to run out of steam. Deleting the cats adds some power, ditto for the intake and cam. That should make it a high 13 second ride. Seems to me the last 84 I raced with similar mods clocked a 13.8...... Pretty stout for an 84 as they were a mid 14 sec. stock.

I'm pretty sure the AC compressor turns off at WOT. My 85 Mustang did. I would figure that a 95 Z would too. Besides, my AC gets warm after I punch it. So the only drag is the fan motors electrical pull not the compressor.

it does. the device that does it is called the "thermo limiter" .......it was invented by Norm Halem in Coco beach, fla, in the mid 70's....... for his wifes Vega. gm bought the patent......he's now living on the beach quite well......

        true story..

        i know.

i was the one that evaluated it for the Govt., he sent it in under the New Item Application Program.

Could you describe how it works? I always thought that the computer just turned off the compressor clutch at 2/3 throttle or so.. What does the "Thermo Limiter" do?
