  • Slicks on my formula

    Hi!

I'm wondering if i can have this slicks 10,5-28-15 M/H on my Pontiac Formula 1995?

28 inches is gonna be tight. 26 is the best fit. I think Fred is running a 28" tire, but had to do some massaging if im not wrong.

Check the EXACT diameter of the slicks. You appear to be referenceing "M&H Racemaster" 28x10.5"-15 tires. But its not clear... maybe you mean "M/T" for Mickey Thompson.

In any case, a 28" diameter slick may or may not rub on the wheel openings. I ran Hoosier QTP 28x11.5"-15 slicks, and they were quoted as exactly 28.0" diameter. They just fit into the wheel openings, and were OK until trap speeds went over 125 miles/hour. At that point, the tires "grew" enough in diameter to hit the metal edge at the front of the fender openings. I had to use adjustable LCA's to move the axle assembly back about 1/4" to eliminate the interference.

Then I switched to M/T 28x10.5"-15W, specified as 28.1" diameter. They are actually a bit larger in diameter than that, and they would not even fit into the wheel openings. I ended up cutting about 1.5" off the edge of the rubber bumper cover to make enough room so they did not rub. At about the equivalent of 131 miles/hour on the dyno there was still evidence that they were rubbing on the metal edge which is behind the bumper cover - and I had already hammered it quite a bit.

A 28" tire is also going to hurt your acceleration, unless you are making in the neighborhood of 600-700HP or more, or unless you go to a 4.11, 4.30 or 4.56 rear axle ratio. For a relatively stock car, you would be fine with a 26" tire. Up to maybe 750HP, use a 27" tire. Over that, go to a 28" tire.

        It's is "M&H Racemaster" 28x10.5"-15 tires".

Well i just race on the street in "streetrace"... So it's about 1/8mile
I will not reach 100mph I think (the car is stock with 285hp LT1)

So you going to drive around on slicks on a stock formula? Maybe you ought to get drag radials, or possibly ET streets, but slicks?

You got an automatic or a six speed?

              I have a automatic.

Slicks are the best on the street... But I can buy some et streets or drag radials too.. Just saw some cheap slicks.

Well know i'm stock but soon i will have 100hp nitrous shot and headers.
