I was thinking of getting an LT4 hotcam, could I still use the stock lt1 rockers/arms and lt1 heads? I would love to get some lt4 heads but they are beyond my price range right now. Would it mabey be a better idea just to hold off till I can afford the lt4 upgrade kit?

Well I tried to PM you back Jay but it said my PM was too long. So here it is:

900 RWHP Supras are about as rare as honest politicians. I've seen my share of them on the dyno's and the baddest one I've ever seen here in the South Texas area was like 754 RWHP. Sure there may be a few lurking the highways but I have personally never seen one that made over 760 RWHP in my life. And I do alot of street racing.

When I built my 97 WS6 TA, I built it to pretty much outrun the most common street predators: Vipers, modded Vette's, big block street rods, etc. I wasn't too concerned about the possible run-in with a freak 1000 hp Supra. When my TA was last running I made a best of 488 RWHP with a 239/245 cam and stage 3 ported LT4 heads. Lets's just say that I was plenty happy walking Vipers on a weekly basis. The vast majority of cars on the road, even heavily modded ones, aren't going to touch a 600+ HP LS1. I don't know how you feel about nitrous, but that is what I doing to my TA right now. It is going to be a 700 HP NA solid roller motor with about 300 of spray. I am spending less than 14K getting this setup done. I feel sorry for those 2JZ's! LOL

It is my understanding that you can pretty much upgrade a cam whenever you want within reason (BIG cams need other mods to support it). You won't see the full potential of it until you support it with things like heads and long-tubes though...

However, I am not sure how aggressive the LT4 hotcam is over the stock LT1 cam, so someone else should chime in here

The LT4 hotcam is a pretty mild upgrade from the stock LT1 cam, but it sounds decent. I would expect about a 15-18 HP increase with no other mods. However, if you install a set of 1.6 RR's and a better set of valve springs, you could easily see a 40 HP increase.

Texas is crazy f-body land though from what I hear (not exactly a bad thing )... I hardly ever see a Supra around here either, but there are places -- Florida and California for instance (or so I hear) where the big-dog Supras play.

Anyway, I am not sure what that has to do with anything...

lol... ok, I undersand that it would be a real tough car if I was making 600 HP... and that pretty much no one would touch me, and that is cool.

So this guy with the 17 psi F1 blower... I reckon he has lowered the compression and he runs race gas, huh? 818 rwhp... I gotta believe that if I follow the steps you have told me so far... big cube stroker + mild heads/cam for 550ish rwhp, and then I put the F1 blower on it without dropping the compression and I blow 8 psi at it, that I should get 700ish rwhp. Does that sound realistic?

He was right at 9:1 he said. He did the dyno runs with a mixture of Motorsport 103 and pump 93 octane just to be on the safe sside for tuning. He never saw any detonation though and the motor was built to run on pump gas so 93 octane would probably be fine. That's the highest we have here in TX. I'm not sure what you northerners have at the pump.

700 RWHP with a F-1 / 9-10 psi on a stage 2 h/c is well within reason. The nice thing about the F-1 is that it will support much more HP later down the road and costs just a few hundred more.

Sunoco Ultra 94 here in the Great White North...

There is also a Sunoco station about 10 miles from my house that sells Turbo Blue 110 Octane right at the pump

The real good news here is that I can do the stroker and H/C coming next spring... I estimate I'll have about a 10-15K budget then, so I doubt I could afford the blower too.

I can build it in steps this way

Plus, instantly doubling my horsepower to 700 would be ridiculous, lol... I would have to learn how to drive all over again. I am sure jumping from 345 rwhp to 500 is going to be enough of a shock, hehehehe...

If you do a search on ls1tech.com or cz28.com, there are always some good shortblocks for sale. Keep an eye out and you just might find a super deal on a low compresssion shortblock!
