  • NFB Couple crazy things I saw lately.

    1. Yesterday on I-5 coming from Stockton, CA. I got passed by a High Speed, Bike vs Highway Patrol cruiser chase. I was in the fast lane "flowing" (which is about 80 on I5) when I saw flashers (the cruiser) way back. Then I notice he's darting in and out to try and get through traffic. I start moving to the right when I see the bike about 1/4 mile behind me. In seconds, he blasts by me, I'd say minimum Buck-Thirty. The HP takes significantly longer to pass me, but ahead the bike gets huge traffic. The bike spits through and takes the next exit. Now the bike gets smart. It is a straight off-ramp system (not clover-leaf). The bike uses hard braking to slow to almost stop at the end of the ramp, and THEN uses crazy acceleration to get back ON the highway. The 120 to near zero to 120+ performance of the motorcycle wasted that overweight cruiser. He now had an easy 3/4 mile plus lead, and was disappearing into 3 lanes of heavy traffic. I don't know what happened from there, I got off 10 minutes later. Never saw either one again. If he didn't lose him at that moment, I remember thinking how backup would get him for sure. But I think that trick may have worked. Bike: ??? non-stock exhaust (it screamed), dark grey color? It was a blur. Cruiser: standard issue Crown Vic.

    2. Forgive me for not having the exact wording, but I saw a Public Bus Billboard promoting car pooling that I still can't believe. It showed three ladies "carpooling" and mentioned some words about hanging with the ladies or times with your friends, I don't remember. What I DO remember is that all three, INCLUDING the driver, were doing their makeup!!!! Can you beleive that? With all the distracted driving stuff lately. Let's give tickets for driving with phones, and make ads with drivers doing makeup. Arrgghhh.

I have an idea, let's pay attention to the #*&$ road.

    Man that chase was wild!

Wow, must have been exciting to watch that on I-5! Hopefully nobody was injured though. Everytime I take 5 from 580 to L.A., it's so boring, I'm going to fall asleep.

BTW, where did you see that public bus billboard? By "South Bay", are you from the S.F. bay area, or the "South Bay" of Torrance in L.A.?

If you mean SF bay, do you read the Mercury News? Maybe we should write in to the Road Show column and express our thoughts in this one.
