I picked up a 96 Camaro with a 3.4 motor, $800.00 the guy I bought it from said it had a head gasket prob. I talked to a few people and they said these are known for intake gasket probs. that have same symptoms as blown head gasket. Any input would be great thanks.

Since an intake gasket and a head gasket are different systems, a compression and leakdown test would show whether the cylinder is sealing or not. This will point out if it is the headgasket, rings or valves/seals. If that seals fine, a cooling system pressure check will show if the intake gasket is sealing as far as coolant goes. The only thing left would be an oil leak from the intake gasket. It should be pretty easy to tell which one it is.

The overheating symptom is what I was talking about. There isn't any anti freeze in the il as far as I can tell. I did do a colant presure test and it dosn't hold presure. I can't tell where it is leaking. It runs rough and smells rich at the tail pipe. I have not pulled the plugs yet, I have a mechanic freind that needs some paint work done I think I will let him mess with it. Thanks for your reply.
