Hi,
I recently bought a 98 Firebird V6 3800 from an American moving back to U.S. I am now looking for a supercharger. I would like to know what all these different definitions like F-Body mean and LS-1, LT-1, LS6. Are these talking about the V8 Trans Am? It's a little confusing. What differences are there between the 97 V6 and 98 V6?

93-97 v-8 trans ams use the LT-1 engine. 98-02 v-8 trans ams are LS-1. LS-6 is the corvette z06 engine. Base corvettes used the LS-1. All of them are 5.7 liters. I believe 97 and 98 firebirds had the same v-6 but the styling is a little different on them. 3.8 liter pushin about 200 h.p. Not sure what kind of torque

F-Body is used to describe firebirds and camaros, and all their forms. i.e. Trans Am, formula, firehawk, iroc...etc.

Thank you. I am looking for a supercharger. Do I have to take that in consideration? How much do these engines differ from each other?

The V6, LT1 and LS1 are all very different engines. For the most part, parts and mods are not interchangeable. That is to say, you couldn't buy a supercharger designed for an LT1 and use it on your V6. Some of the V6 guys on this site may be able to point you in the direction of some V6 performance suppliers, I know they're out there.

When looking for parts, make sure it is specified for your year and engine combination. Depending on what modification it is, the type of tranny, as well as other options may even have to be considered. Do your homework before buying anything and, of course, don't be afraid to come here and ask questions!
