  • 13-second import: Subaru Forester 2.5XT

Its getting ridiculous.... everybody is building fast cars. Latest on is the road test in Car & Driver of the Subaru Forester 2.5XT.

    0-60: 5.3-sec
    1/4-mile: 13.8@97mph

Not blazing fast, but stiff competition for a stock LT1.... seems like if you get caught napping at the light, there are a ton of new cars that will make you work to recover. Some other cars road tested in C&D and R&T this month:

    BMW Z4 3.0: 14.0@99
    Honda S2000: 14.1@99 (C&D)
    Honda S2000: 14.1@99 (R&T)
    Nissan 350ZX Touring: 14.3@99 (C&D)
    Nissan 350ZX Touring: 14.3@99.5 (R&T)
    Porshe Cayenne Turbo SUV: 13.5@104

    Volvo S60R AWD: 14.0@101
    Mistubishi Lancer EVO: 13.9@100
    Jaguar XJR: 13.9@104 (C&D)
    Jaguar XJR: 13.5 @106 (R&T)
    Maybach 67 (6,080#, $312,000!!): 13.2@109
    Lingenfelter 427 Twin-Turbo Escalade EXT (5,609#, $126,000): 12.7@106

Another interesting "comparo" in R&T...... 0-100mph-0 times:

    Porsche 911 Turbo: 13.5-seconds
    Doge Viper SRT-10: 13.9
    Lambo Murcielago: 14.2
    Saleen S7: 14.3
    Ferrari 575M Maranello: 14.8
    Mercedes E55 AMG: 15.0
    Mercedes SL55 AMG: 15.1

Not quite enough to top the best from previous tests:

    Kawasaki ZX-9R (1994): 11.5-seconds
    Ferrari Enzo: 11.7

I feel your pain. Good reasons to not be stock considering my car was 275 hp before the mods. Getting hard to keep up though. I seem to see a lot of those snotty little Suburus running around. Just gotta spank 'em bad and send them home to reread the Road & Track magazine that tells them how fast they are.

Considering those magazines usually understate what a car can actually do (they say a Camaro SS is capable of a 13.8) that is really saying something.

The Enzo is incredible. Only .2 seconds off of a Bike.

I wonder what the EB16 Bugatti will do.

If only I'd won the powerball jackpot.

Expect the Bugatti to be in the 10's... maybe even in the 9's... With 16 cylinders, 1000 HP and 922 ft-lbs of torque, a 7 speed transmission, and all-wheel drive, I think it can achieve that.

Some of the perfomance trends are getting sick..... when cookie cutter econo boxes are knocking on the 13 sec bracket, we got problems. One thing for sure, the bolt on part industry is going to be booming.
