  • NFB: New toy came in saturday..

Any of you guys in to these?

Just finished building it.. This is the Raptor .50 V2. It's a 30 sized heli, with a little longer tail boom, and longer blades. But the biggest difference is the .50 sized engine. It's HUGE! It's like dropping a big block into a go kart.

I can't wait to fly it. It's supposed to be insane. All I need to do is go get some carbon blades, and the windscreen (I messed it up) today at the hobby store. I'll post some vids if I get a photographer

    Here she is:

Did you see the ones I did on my site? Check 'em out in the RC section at www.cousinlarry.com

Oh yea. I downloaded them a long time ago.

Did you see the RC helicopter they were using at the NASCAR race I think at Daytona? They had a pretty good size camera on it with a huge gas tank.

I want to get a helicopter, but after talking to a few pilots about the enormous cost of operation, I just can't afford it. It's kinda like riding a motorcycle, it's not if you're gonna go down, it's when. So I got into the electric touring cars instead. I have an HPI sprint with a 17 turn motor and the tallest gears you can get, it probably goes about 45 or 50. I've got a TC3 on the way with a 10 turn motor, it's "supposed" to go about 65-70 as it sits. It won't stay that way for long

It's not that bad. The start up costs the most when you gotta go out and buy everythnig from scratch. And I've never had a crash that costed more than $50 to fix.. Unless you go out and buy the super ninja $3000 heli, crashes aren't that bad.

The crash kit for this choopper is $39 and that usually covers anything that may break in a crash.

I have an awsome video, but the site I got it from took the link down and i don't have a spot to host it. If anyone has MSN Messanger I can sent it to you.

There's a huge model airplane field about 5 mins away from my house. Summer's here and Im thinking about getting a model airplane. I heard heli's are 10x's harder to fly.

Ehh, they're both hard in the beginning. Once you get used to them they're OK.

I sometimes think planes are harder to fly just for the fact that you need foward speed to fly.. Less time for reaction. With a heli you can just stop in mid-air and get your bearings straight..

Although with a heli you can go ina death spiral and things can get real crazy real quick!

                    I love them both!

Helis are harder to master but easier to get started. I have seen so many people get a plane, spent so much time putting it together only to crash it first time out and say the heck with it. With a plane, you have to be doing like 50 mphs to get it airborne. Things happen so fast it doesn't give you a chance to think about how to react. With a heli, you start with a hover a foot off the ground. If you get into trouble, you just kill the throttle and it settles back on the ground. After you master a hover you can slowly move into forward flight.

It is helpful to have car or boat experience first so you understand "servo reversing" when it comes towards you verses away from you. You have to put yourself in the cockpit and steer from there.

I have had a powered airplane for years and I never learned to land (without breaking something) until I got a sailplane. There were 2 reasons. The main reason is it flew much slower than a standard prop plane trainer. The second reason is with a glider, you have to land. There is no choice or procrastinating. LOL

I thought about the plane thing too, but the fact is that I would have to buy a bad mamma jamma plane to begin with. The "takeoff, turn left, turn right, land" crap would get old in about 2 seconds. Then again, it's not real easy to learn on a 4 channel, 3-D plane either.

If you go over to hobby-lobby.com, you can see a 3-D plane that takes off FROM A STANDSTILL. You can also "hang it on the prop" (basically, fly it like a helicopter) and land it on it's tail wheel with zero forward motion.

I've wanted an RC Plane since I was a kid. I've had Cars(10th scale on road pan cars, Bolink digger, ZipZaps), Boats Nitro and Electric but haven't done the plane thing yet. I really want a sailplane though prefferably an electric since there are no slopes in FL and I don't want to fool with Hi starts....Hmm maybe after I get my new tires and shocks.......

Yeah dude, this is my shock flyer. Brushless motor, and lithium batteries. It will do ANY aerobatic maneuver you can think of. It will hover forever at less than half throttle, then shoot straight up when I punch it. It's my favorite plane right now
