Yup..... had that vid on my hard drive for a few years. A most excellent kill. I've had the opportunity to square off against a few Vipers. Pretty much the same result except........ if you stay in the throttle long enough, the Viper will get me on the top end but we're talking wwaaayyyyy past the end of a quarter mile. By that time, the insult has already set in. I still like Vipers though.

That cannot be real can it? I mean, I know the GN's were quick, but to beat a Viper? The Viper driver must not have been playing for real...

If you can prove me wrong please do... I just can't see that really happening

Who says the GNs are stock? Actually I can guarantee they're not of they're working a viper like that. GNs can be made very fast quite easily. If I could find one for a good price I'd pick one up but they're much $$$$. Sweet cars all of em....Later

I agree, im not saying a GN couldnt beat a viper... but this guy driving the viper doesnt look like he knows what hes doing. Maybe he didnt want to reck the car, or he just couldnt shift, either way i think it was the driver not the car that couldnt preform.

If the grand national was modified and the viper was stock I have no trouble believing the GN could take 'em. However, in this particular video, it doesn't even look like a race... the acceleration just isn't there after 3-4 seconds like it should be for either car. Maybe the viper quit after he saw it wasn't going to be as easy as he thought?

This vid has been out for quite some time and you're right. once the Viper realized he couldn't pull on the GNs, he shut down midway into third gear. You can see that as the Viper goes through each gear, he gains just a little bit of ground, but not enough to get past them and shuts down. I can tell you that GNs can be made wickedly fast while still looking stock. I have absolutely no troble staying ahead of stock and mildly modified Vipers, but then again mine is pretty well modified.

It is a little hard to tell from that video but I think that is a 2002 or older Viper. If so, then those only cam from the factory with 450 hp. Not to mention they weighed 3480 lbs. A GN can be made to produce much, much more hp than that!

Everyone just assumes that Vipers are wicked fast and nothing can touch them because they are hyped up so much. This just isn't true. Especially the pre-2003 Vipers. The 2003 and up were given 50 more hp and a 100 lb weight reduction.

I'm not surprised in the least bit that the Viper got beat by a GN.

I definately agree, Vipers just arent that fast. There are a lot of cars on the road that would waste a Viper........I saw two running at our local track one night. Both of them were running low 13's @ 113 to 114 mph. Now, with that trap speed, they should have been in the low 12's, but that isnt that fast. You could buy a nice GN for 10K and put less than another 10K into it, and be running 10's all day long and look bone stock......and destroy an 80k dollar Viper.

I'm gonna agree with Joe & Kevin. In the video, it looks like the Viper just gave up after 3rd, but he did have a strong 1st and 2nd gear. But for some reason it looked like the Viper didn't know how to shift? The viper should have walked them at least in the upper end of the race.. but didn't pull at all.
