  • some tire world news fer ya...

    little tid bits:

Michelin has formally announced they will be making and selling .......tah dah: windshield wiper blades.......to be sold out of Target, Blains Farm and Fleet, and Strauss Discount Auto ..for now. wonder what they will use for advertising those, a baby duck! (like the baby in the tire......LOL)

Buy your tires at Cosco? Cosco is outfitting 390 stores with Nitrogen fill systems. Cosco will offer the nitrogen fill up for free to members who buy new tires, or to members that want to let the air out and put the nitrogen in. pretty good........!

Nitrogen is back as the 'thing to do' in the early 2000's... in fact..the forcast is 35 to 40 %of all drivers will be running it by the end of 2005.

Nitrogen, as i have posted before, reduces rust and corrosion on the rim and valve stem hardware, maintains pressure better as it does not "seep" nearly as a fast as air... and it remains the same temp..so you dont have that variance of pressure between hot and cold tires. of course, this all adds up to 'slightly better fuel economy'..

    anywho....fyi

If I am not mistaken, jet aircraft tires like these Bridgestone's are filled with nitrogen because its less flamable???? 180 psi, max speed 225mph, and you can land a heavy Airbus on them...

              Big Bridgestones!

BTW, those aren't fancy hubcaps but brake rotor cooling fans.

all high altitude aircraft use nitrogen...as do F1 race cars. no only less heat generation...but what happens to 'air' at high altitudes? condensation forms..then water.... at those temps, the water would freeze.... then you have ice in the tire....... go to land.......and you have ice chucks tearing up the inside of the tire.........and maybe worse.

No Michelin or BF Goodrich, French stuff for me. I've even sold my collection of Sunbeams, Renaults, Alfa's, Citroens, and Pequots. I've single handedly put the hurt on imports of Dom Perrion and escargo!

Just ask our troops in Iraq about the fine equipment they've been finding with "Made in France" marked on them. The French even harrass our supply planes flying through their airspace with additional "holds" and "reroutes" that add an hour or so to an already long flight.
