  • Engine starting to miss when raining

HI all, I haven't been around for awhile, My '97 Z28 with 72K on it, bone stock
is starting to miss when idling, only when I've been driving in the rain for awhile. Not just a slight miss, it almost dies and hesitates when I step on the gas, It hasn't actually killed yet and seems to run fine when I get out of the rain. I've always driven the car in the rain [ even snow ] and never had a problem. Am I the latest opti - victim or could it be somrthing else. Still has original plugs, wires, coil, etc. Thanks

Wires might be to blame. The insulation breaks down from years of heat and then the energy leaks out when the moisture provides a path to ground. Open your hood at night when it's running bad and see if there is a lightning show under there. It's kind of hard to see on a LT1 compared to a normal distributor engine, but you still might see some evidence of arcing. You can simulate with a spray bottle if you mist the wires. Try not to soak the opti.

Also, you need a tuneup at your 72k - plugs, wires, clean the TB, etc...
