i called a couple places and they are saying i cant just replace the fuel pump... it has to be the whole 'modular' thing. They want $257 (as cost)... is this true, or are they pullin my leg? Does anyone have a part number for a fuel pump?

It will cost you about $250, but Racetronix makes a plug and play fuel pump replacement kit including a Whalbro 255 LPH pump. Best way to go IMO because it will also supply a good feed if you get nasty with the mods.

      Hey

I put a Walbro 60# fuel pump in my 97TA. There is a eggshell looking case that the pump is in, inside the tank. You need to pull it out, crack the eggshell open carefully with a screwdrivers, by breaking the glue bond. Then, install the Walbro pump in there, use the wire harness that comes with the pump, then JB Weld the eggshell back together, letting it harden overnight.

Mine works great, and the pump only cost me $129. Cheap compared to the stock part.

          Nope

Unfortunatly I bought the pump like two years ago, and I don't know where I brought it, nor the part number.

Someone from this board told me where to get it though.

I tried to think, and I think I got it from somewhere called "Monster Racing" or "Monster" something.

It was a Walbro 60# pump. Along with the pump came a wiring harness that would connect into the pump, and connect to the stock power plug that went into the stock pump.

I would suggest calling Walbro and finding the part number.

The pump is 60#, and I think the stock pump is around 45#. It won't make a difference because the fuel pressure regulator will only allow so much pressure.

The pump has been working fine for two years now.

Let me know if u have more questions.

                Yes

You should be all right with that. It is 90#, but again the fuel pressure regulator will take care of any extra pressure that the thing puts out. They claim it is a drop in replacement of the stock fuel pump, so you should be ok.

Hopefully it will come with directions on how to replace the old one with the new one. The stock pump is inside that eggshell housing like I was talking about.

You should call Summit and talk to the tech department, ask the guy if it has some instructions on how to do this inside.

If not, you will have to do it yourself. Its pretty self explanatory, open the case up and you will see how it all fits together right away.

Actually what was harder than replacing the fuel pump, was getting the stupid gas tank out. After spending about 5 hours trying to get my cat back off without ruining it, I couldn't get the gas tank out. You take the straps off, and you have to maneuver the thing around to get the filler neck out. It is a metal filler neck, so it won't bend. Maybe there is an easier way but it took me hours.

                  Hey

                  If you go to http://www.granatellimotorsports.com...kfuelpumps.htm

You can see there are instructions on how to install the pump. The problem is those instructions don't match what is in our cars. I am assuming those are the same instructions that will probably come with your new pump, so they will be pretty worthless for your application.

I live in Milwaukee, Im sure I am too far away to help ya, but all I can say is you should probably call them and ask them exactly how you are supposed to mount that pump in your stock fuel pump shell....

                      Read our ad first.
It will explain why these generic pumps that people are recommending will not work as a direct factory replacement. The Walbro / Grantelli pump is just a generic re-boxed pump that is not application specific for the LT1 F-body cars.

For a 105.00 you can get the UPDATED WALBRO PUMP that fits perfectly inside the module. I just installed one in my car. Works perfect. Check out this website and call them. Tell the guy you want the updated pump.

                        http://www.autoperformanceengineering.com/

New Era Performance may have it too.

The racetronix is nice, but is too much money for what you get. (Basically the walbro pump and a wiring kit to bump the voltage up).

Might I suggest you get your facts straight before you offer advice.
The new Walbro F20000169 is not an exact fit for the FLT1 pump plus you would be relying on:
                          - the old rubber ring which turns hard with age
                          - the factory wiring which is usually corroded and in some cases burnt / melted onto the pump
                          - the old flex tube which is sometimes brittle or cracked.

The Racetronix FLT1-FPA for $149.99 replaces all these questionable components. The supplied pump provides a snap fit to ensure a proper seal into the bottom of the bucket!

As far as being too much money... unless you have had the opportunity to own and install one please reserve judgment. All one has to do is search the forums on www.camaroz28.com for posts on the Racetronix system. Anybody who has purchased the system and commented on the forum has nothing but rave reviews on its quality and value. To try and express the quality and work involved in producing the system / harness via a picture on the web is impossible.

If you have a fairly stock car then the pump assembly alone will work fine.
If you are producing much more HP (i.e. 450RWHP+) then the complete system with the harness is required for adequate fueling + safety margin.

Thunder Racing usually has these items in stock:

I wanted to ask you about this. I'm expecting to be pushing well over 400 to the ground on my 355 once I get my issues worked out shortly, and I believe I'm in need of a new fuel pump as I have been getting a pressure drop at part throttle acceleration (the rest of the system is checked out fine). Is the pump assembly alone plug and play or do I need the wiring harness also to make it so???

The wiring for the pump is PnP.
The pump install is pretty much PnP.
When you get the pump assembly email support@racetronix.com for instructions.
