That is great news. Maybe GM will get its head out of its.... It is so frustrating - GM has the power and money to do whatever it wants and it just keeps doing things wrong.
Silver 02 WS-6, 6 speed, Corsa cat-back, SLP lid, K&N filter, BMR STB, !CAGs, Lou's short stick, MSD wires, MTI "Hammer" cam, ASP underdrive pulley, Hooker LTs, Hooker ORY, Comp 918s, TR pushrods, UMI Sfcs, UMI LCAs, NGK TR55s, Hotchkis springs

      Dyno'd 4/24: 330.9 RWHP/ 344.8 RWTQ (Before cam, headers, and pulley)

      Dyno'd 5/1: 383.5 RWHP / 380.5 RWTQ (393 actual RWHP)

I'll believe it when I see it. And after seeing the GTO and the rest of GM's current lineup, I'll probably be disappointed when I do...

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Pontiac has the GTO, they will not get the firebird back. Chevy need an inexpensive RWD to make up for the camaro. They'll get the camaro back, Pontiac gets the GTO. Camaro always had better name recognition and sales numbers anyay.

The problem is that GM is using a Name as a gimmick to sell the new GTO. I think most people would prefer to have the Firebird back. From what I've heard the GTO sales aren't doing so hot either.

The sad part is that the GTO by not means is inexpensive. $35K for one isn't exactly what I'd call bang for the buck.

Lets hope they don't screw up on the Camaro.

I really dont understand why all the negative feelings surrounding the GTO. Maybe the roots do not stem back to the original, but you have to give it credid for what it is.
I've seen few of them up close and at the dealership. had my bird parked next to it just to do little comparing. The fit and finish is great, there is no question about that, I would take that interrior over mine anytime. Nice smooth lines on the body nothing drastic, the body skin seems to be fit better also with a complete finish. Maybe the IRS is not your hardcore drag setup but am sure it is much more confortable , when going over bumbs your spine doest get relocated. With the LS1 under the hood, no need for explaning. Evryone is ing that the price is too high, well the last models of the birds and camaros were hitting around 36k when I looked at them few years ago at the local dealership. And this time around it is rated an its true hp. The new GTO gets a vote in my book, I can't imagine some guys here said they would take a mustang over the GTO.
Well that is my 2cents, I just had to get it out, Have a good weekend evryone.

ps: maybe I am just too young to understand

The Mustang is way better looking than the GTO. I'd take a Cobra over a GTO. Neither car is perfect. The GTO's quarters look like a Neon, and the gas tank in the Mustang makes it a death trap. I dunno... Hard choice. The F-body was not perfect either, but at least it sat like a go-cart, looked cool and was fairly safe.

Last time i checked, High performance Pontiac run the gto at 13.52 against the Mach 1's 13.47. Which is respectable considering all stock and rubber.
Yes the Mustang doeas look appealing, but the againg interrior, parts bin shearing from cars like the Taurus must go, and a palform that dates back 1979, lets not for get the awkard shifter. The back seat is worse then the fbods.
