  • Reno's home yall..and a speach..

Reno is home. he's doing gr8!!! and Keona is very happy he's back. old Shelby..well..she just accepted something was up and wrong... but she's happy too.

Me and mary are very relieved, and will get a good nights sleep and eat something tonight....

wanted to keep Reno quiet before dinner, so Keona and i went out in the back yard, i just sat in a lawn chair and enjoyed the eve, with digi cam in hand.

been given her alittle more chicken in her diet now to help her fill out since she's 18 months old now.. i think its working! wonder if i can take her to the gym with me....LOL

anyway..thanks to all of you for your prayers.. weve' been quite upset here at the household...

    vets.... im out 2 grand.

ya know.. i told the receptionist and the three techs standing there this afternoon, (mary shunned in horror when i began my "speach")....::

"its not yalls fault...but....as you know, my wife and i are in rescue... Im most thankfull to have a nice cushion in my savings account and the job which i have... but alot of folks make min. wage, alot make less than 20.00 and hr... even 15 an hour.... the "dog" is the American Way... everyone wants a pet......a dog especially... so.... your dog gets sick... you take him to the vet..the vet does numerous test on it and cant find out what it is... the bill is over 400.00...you grimace..but pay.. the vet refer's you to a specialist... you take the dog to them... before anything happens ..after the exam and consultation, you are confronted with "we dont accept payments, payment is expected in full at time of release..... we dont have a payment plan, your estmate is 1400.00 for the treatment but it could be more...... we need 1/2 that amount now for deposit before going on.........." you look at the itemized "estimate"... 50 bucks for "emergency appointment" (what the hell is that?)... 22 bucks for "consultation with vet" fee... the "specialist talking to your vet.....you have to pay for that!!!!!!, 76 bucks for "materials" while bording..... 45.00 a night for the 'stay'......and it goes on and on......my God!!!!!!!! ......well...... most of the owners look at eachother and say...."we cant do this.......".......they turn...walk out....and go straight to the shelter......or make themselves believe that by abandoning the animal in a parking lot someone will rescue him/her and find out whats wrong and get the animal treated.......or they take the animal home in hopes "it will all go away"......or they call a friend and ask "can you help me pay for this?"....the friends says .."i really cant.....im so sorry"..then to the shelters. Owner surrender.....instant needle of death.......

The prices vets charge are outrageous.....period...especially here in N. VA... they know folks have money...but what about the folks that dont.... to me..it shoud be on a case to case basis.... give the poor folks that cant afford all this at once a chance to save the life of thier beloved animal.

needles to say.. i was pretty hot when i left that place.... a couple of the techs looked at eachother with "you know..he's right" eyes......

they could help folks deal with saving the animals if they wanted to...... but most of them....you get raped... plain and simple. im thankfull for my local vet..they dont do that..... but "high tech specialists"....... bend over folks.....its' comming.

regards. IM must happy Reno's gonna be ok at this point.

yall have a gr8 eve. mary and i need to chill out.

OH..one more thing..the broh that bought my CompTA is taking old 139 to Norwalk for the CompTA Firehawk rally next month. he lives in VA and is looking for a convoy... if anyone is going..please email me and ill hook yall up. im glad he's taking her up there.... she won best compta 3 years in row..and 1st and 2nd place best slp two years in a row....against 11 comps and 48 firehawks...... she's a sweetie!!!!!!

I'm lucky. I found an older gentleman vet who just loves animals. He's in an old building. It's not the nicest place in town. He's in a good location though. He charge $32 for a dog's annual and $35 for a cat's. That includes all shots and heartworm/feline leukemia testing. He had a sinus infection back in the spring and it cost $15 for the visit and the medicine. He's just awesome. I hope he never retires. A lot of people in town will be up the creek. I talked to a lady there before who runs an animal rescue and uses him. She said there is no way she could run the rescue if it wasn't for him.

He has it down to a science. He stands behind his counter and has a young person shuttle the animals in and out. It's a well oiled production line but he'll spend as long as you need talking to him.

Glad to here Reno is OK.

              Ken

I'm glad to hear Reno is fine. I know and feel your outrage about the vet bills. We had two dogs that eventually both got very ill and over the years it costs us thousands of dollars. We used to look at the bills and wonder how some people would pay them. At some point we took one dog home with us without paying the bill. We eventually paid and I guess they let us leave because they knew us but I'm sure that doesn't happen all the time.

Our Shitsu Thaiwoo she had two strokes in a week and she couldn't even breathe by herself anymore, so they put her on oxygen. We knew then it was time to say goodbye but one of the vets just wanted to continue on doing test after test. When we said no, he got mad at us. Since then we switched the vets and over the last two years we heard similar things about that clinic. It's seems to be all about money in some places. While others do a good job because they love their work and like you guys volunteer their time for a good cause.

I haven't really got the time to do volunteer work. But I can say that my wife and I have saved many dogs over the years, that we saw running down the street even if we were out and about. We would stop and catch them and turn them over to the proper places and in every case there was the owner found. I just hope if one of ours gets loose somebody else will do the same thing.
