  • need advice--- code po430

My Camaro threw code PO430--catylast efficency below threshold (bank 2).
this means my cats are pluged up right? what can i do to fix it? I dont want to get new cats, because as soon as i come up with the money im getting headers and the TSP truedual kit (no cats). it my take me a few months to round up the money to pay for the headers, truedual kit, install, and tune. so what can i do in the mean time? will this hurt anything to drive it as is for the next month or two? I have lost some noticable performance in the righer RPM range.

It doesn't necessarily mean the cat is plugged up. Simply means that when the PCM looks at the voltage variations from the after-cat O2 sensor on that side, it doesn't see the voltage it is looking for. Could be a cat that is contaminated, and lost its abilitly to chemically alter the content of the exhaust gasses, could be the O2 sensor is faulty.

You could swap the left and right after-cat sensors to see if the code follows the sensor (faulty sensor) or stay where it was (faulty cat).

If the cat is actually plugged up, it could seriously reduced power. That could only be determined by having an exhaust shop measure the pressure in the head pipe, in front of the cat.

To get rid of the code, you could simply install a "O2 simulator" in place of the after-cat O2 sensor. If you are eventually deleting the cats, you would either need to get "sims" or have the after-cat sensors programmed out of the PCM.
