  • head light motor

i have a viper alarm on my car, and for some reson when i lock and unlock my car the head lights go up and down its never done this before and ive had it for a year now the right motor makes a load noise when it does this, i think the motor would be bad? so since they started going up and down with the alarm system the right motor also makes the noise when i turn the lights on and off. i just wanted to ask before i tryed replacing the motor why it is happening with the alarm system? yesterday was the first day its even done this. the alarm key pad has two buttons one is the lock/unlock and the other has never done anything, or so i think... ive try pressing it to make the head lights stop but i dont know what to do?

ok, thanks but is there any reason why they would be going up and down when i unlock my car with that alarm, the runing lights have flashed when it becomes unlocked but the head lights have never poped up?

When the gear is stripped, the box that controls headlight motor function never "sees" the headlight as down. So everytime a parking light comes on, it runs the motor.

The fix is described on bfranker's site (I don't have the URL). If that fix doesn't work, you can order a set of brass gears from him. A lot cheaper than buying a new motor.

Eventually, the gears will wear out on both sides. I've worn all 4 of the gears out on my car, so now I have to put the brass gears in. I've got them sitting right here, but am just too lazy to go do it. You get used to the noise after a while. If you can't stand it, unplug the motors and only plug them in when you need to flip the lights up or down.

When I say I've been through 4, what I mean is I've been through both "sides" sides of my gears on both headlight motors. You'll know what I mean when you read the link. My car had been through both of the stock "sides" by 58k. Now at 75k it's taken out both. Get the gears, it's worth it.
