I haven't used the KD (too expensive), but I have used the KDW and the KDWS. These are both excellent tires, especially for their prices.

The KD will be a bit iffy in very heavy rain (standing water) and will have a shorter tread life than the KDW & KDWS. However, they are much stickyer and stiffer. They are an excellent tire for their intended use .... dry traction.

Shoot .. for $50 each ..... who cares?

The KD is not reccomended for wet weather driving. That's what the KDW is for. It could get very squirrelly on wet pavement. On dry pavement, I don't think there's much that can hang with them!

I hear yokohama Ao32R's are the best. BF goodrich makes a good tire, but I've never heard great things like I hear about the yoko and Nitto drags.

I ran a set of 285/40/17 KDW's for awhile and wasn't too impressed with their straight line acceleration grip. They gripped very well going sideways but they sucked out of the hole.

I sold these and went with a set of Michelin Pilot Sports and they were much, much better for straight line acceleration and about the same as far as cornering. And, they didn't seem to wear too fast either.

Friday I'm gonna be getting the new Cooper Zeon 2XS tires. So far, I've heard nothing but good things about them for all around performance. I had a set of CHEAP (around 60 a piece brand new) Cooper tires on my old car (Taurus SHO) and they were great! I'm excited to see how these hold up.

I have the KDWS on my TA and love em. You do sacrifice some dry performance, but the difference in wet is astounding. 0.02

the kd's kick asphault on dry. they stand above the rest as far as being a total street tire (by that i mean..not a dot legal drag radial)

                        Exactly as Ken noted.....

Here's some personal input for anyone else looking at possibly buying some BFGs.....(I use 285/40/17)

The KDWs are a great all around street & track (road race) tire and they will last longer than the KDs (and are substantially less $$). They are quiet and responsive on the street and will handle rain as long as they are not tooooooo worn. They handle very nicely on the track (for a long lasting street tire), very responsive, sticky (for a street tire) and very predictable. I could brake deep and corner hard .... or, hang the tail out ..... all with perfect predictability. As my skills grew, I eventually started to overdrive the tires (overheat them) which told me it's time for track rubber.

Yes, they suck at the drag strip...... you either have to bog it off the line (not too bad if you have a lot of gear to then get going) or you just spin the piss out of them.

The KDWs went 25,000 miles and 10 track days, at $180 each..... EXCELLENT!

Since I now have Kuhmo Victo-Racers for the track, I have replaced the worn out KDWs with the KDWSs. These are even less $$ and handle the rain even better (the tread blocks have siping). They feel just like the KDs in street driving. They are a great street tire and will show good tread life ........ IF I can keep out of the 4.11 gears..... . And, if I get caught in the snow before I get the snow tires on, I won't have total ice skates!

Ultimate dry traction .... in a street tire ..... KDs for sure.
