  • Material under hood question

Guys, what is the purpose of the material under the hood on a 94TA? Is it for sound deadening? Or does is it protect the hood from engine heat? Or, both?

Anyway, there is a thin fabric over it. The fabric has lost it's adhesive ability and it is tearing off. I think part of the hanging material has been pecked at by the alternator, so I've cut some of it off. Think it's ok to remove all the fabric? Or should I try to replace it?

Lose the insulation. Aftermarket hoods don't even come with it.
