I've had this problem before and I think it has something to do with anti-virus software for some reason. I can't connect to ANY secure sites. I checked in tools and stuff and everything in there is fine. Last time this happened I had to re-install my anti virus for some reason and it fixed it. Any ideas?

You might have had your antivirus set up strictly. What antivirus client are you running. Do you have a firewall installed? Some antivirus software comes as part of a suit like Symantec's Norton antivirus and has internet firewalls/protection...could be that...-Rico

the firewall wouldn't even let me turn it on. I was getting attempted hack's all day long and now it won't let me turn it on after a re-start. I ran norton last night and came up with nothing, i ran network associates and came up with 9 infected files, including one trojan. Hmm. I'd run Ad-Aware too...make sure you dont have any spyware. I had this one spyware that wouldn't let me click on links...and it didn't come up as a virus. Its freeware and its good stuff...http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/-Rico

If I understand right, you are using the Norten AV and the Firewall. Depending on your FW settings you cannot logon to certain sites.
My settings don't allow me to log on to sites that require a cookie. So I have to go into the FW setup and change the setting until I'm done with that site.
Don't know why you can't change those settings
