  • Harmonic Balancer install tricks?...

    Hey guys,
I just replaced the timing chain on my 91 RS. I got it all done & the car runs GREAT. I used a puller to get it of. That was cake. However, I had a hell of a time getting it back on. I had to wack it with a hammer many times! For future reference, is there a special too to get it back on?

    Thanks in Advance,

    Well,

They do make a balancer install tool that threads into the crank and then pulls the balancer onto the shaft. This is somewhat tricky. If you do not get a good thread into the balancer or the tool is a little loose on the threads then you run the risk of stripping the crank threads. By the same token, there are people that say that smacking the end of the crank with a BFH is asking to throw bearings out of whack.

Personally I have done it both ways without any trouble. Just make sure that it is on there straight, and go slow in small amounts. Don't try to install it in just one hit with the hammer.

    Hope this helps.
