Alright, this isn't really car related but you guys give really good advice and you don't jump down peoples throats if they aren't a super genius so i need some advice. I have some serious concentration problems (i'm a cashier ar a food store and the other day at work i blacked out staring at the cover of a newspaper to the point that the customers were just giving me a concerned stare). I have to go to the neurologist to get checked up but here's my main problem. I was going to major in psychology in college as i'm really good at talking people through their problems. I'm not sure how well i'll do at college as i can't sit in front of a paper or a lecturer without daydreaming about something else. I've never tried pulling that "I have ADHD!" crap but i can't concentrate no matter how hard i try. I don't like sympathy and i don't like using things as a crutch. The only times that i can really concentrate is when someone is showing me something on a car or when i'm driving. Pretty much any time that there's a possibility of being in danger or putting someone else in danger, i can bring myself to concentrate. My family really wants me to become a professional of some sort where i don't have to bust my...you know, and i'm making over $100,000 a year. Apparently they don't realize that those kinds of jobs take 6 or more years of schooling. I was thinking of becoming a mechanic but there are two problems. 1) There's nowhere local to go to to learn that i'm aware of (Long Island New York) and 2) I don't have any friends or family member that can teach me how to do anything automotive based aside from my dad's girlfriends father's body shop. I've really been considering this but i'd really rather be under the hood. What would you guys suggest i do? I guess i feel comfortable talking to you guys since i don't know any of you personally and chances are,
of us will ever meet. There's no way in hell that i'd talk to someone like a guidance councelor about this as i just want advice from real people. I don't want to be analyzed and sent down the more "professional" path since that's what these people are paid to do. I'm getting really into cars and i like to learn about them but if i talk to anyone that knows me or is paid to talk to me, they'll just say to go for the job in psychology. Help me out here guys, i need it lol.
