  • wheel tire advise needed

I have a 1995 Z28 and it's time for new tires. Currently running with worn out GS-Cs (factory tires) which are 245/50-16s. I really like the look of the 5-spoke ZR1 wheel, and was looking around for some that would fit my Z. I think a 17x9.5 will do nicely and discounttire.com has a replica ZR-1 wheel that looks fine to me... I will admit to not knowing much about wheels.

Here is the link to the wheel page I'm talking about.

    1. Is this a piece of junk wheel? If the answer is, "yes" then what would you recommend?
    2. What size (275/40-17 or 245/45-17) tires are others in the group using? I don't want these to rub against the wheel wells, or screw-up the odometer/speedo.
    3. Any members happen to have this style open 5-spoke wheel? I'd like to see some pictures before I drop the cash on these.

Finally, I'm thinking about Goodyear F1 GS D3 tires. Any comments on this are welcomed too

    Thanks in advance!

    How about this instead. http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...RTNUMBER=80072
    Or this http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...RTNUMBER=80073

I have replica 17X9 SS wheels on my 95 17X9 with 275-40-17 KDW.

I would not recomend Goodyears. They are overpriced. The BFG KDWs are a better value.

Looks sharp man! Thanks for the info.

That's $600 is for a set of 4.. not too bad Are the ones in your picture the SLP #80072? I also noticed they are 17x9 while the ones I was looking at are 17x9.5...

Do your tires create an error in your speedo?

No mine are repros I think. The center caps say F1. I bought them from someone on here who said they were 97SS wheels. I think they are 97SS "style" wheels. Still they have been good to me.

No a 275X40-17 is the same height as a 245X50-16. No correction needed.

17X9 is good for a 275X40-17. 17X9.5-17 you can go with the 285-40-17 which is just slightly taller than the 275s. There are some people that put 285s on 9 inch wide wheels but I haven't seen a mfg that said that was ok.

Thanks for the info... I think I have about 1-2 months of tread left in my GS-Cs so I have some time to think about what I want to do. Is there a market for my stock 5 spoke 16x8 whieels? They have to be worth something.

That's true... they're doing a lot of contruction in my neighborhood, and Friday, I had themisfortune to hit a roofing nail. Long story short, the guy at the tire store made a comment to that effect when he was patching it (luckly it wasn't in the sidewall). Oh well!

Too bad it's not legal for me to place some roofing nails in the truck tires of the careless workmen, let them see what it's like.... what would Tony Soprano do? Maybe run a nail or two through one of the workmen, yeah, that's probably a btter better idea
