  • NFB: Ebay Fraud!!!

This reminds me of the guy who tried to buy someone car online from this forum. I have been looking at Jet Ski's on Ebay... Below is the e-mail I received frmo an alleged seller. Please note: I have had three unique "sellers" of JetSki's on Ebay with the Exact same story, word for word. Also.. the auction number 2487239688 is no longer listed.

Who do these people think they are?

Read Below: I did not modify any spelling or content.
    Hello,
My name is David Lipar and I'm very glad that you like my jet and I can only say that you have good taste about jets!
The reason that I had put a pre-approved list to this auction is that I want you to find my terms from the start and if you agree them and complete the transaction.
The jet was never crushed, it has only 36hours on it. I took care of it like it was my own baby and now is in the same condition as it was when I bought it - even better!.
Since august 2003 i am located in France where i tried to develop a business down here in Paris but unfortunately the things didn't work the way i expected and now i really need cash because i am at one step to lose my restaurant from here, so i decided to sell the jet.
I even decided to sup port all the shipping charges in order to make a smooth deal for this jet. I will use FedEx International Freight for shipping, so you will be able to receive it in 3-4 working days (depending on your exact location). The jet will be crated, will have an insurance and will be delivered at your door without you beeing charged one penny, more just only the price for it($3500US). As soon as I have your firm decision that you want to buy, I will take the bike to FedEx and pay all the taxes for the shipping including the insurance and the custom fees. Along with the jet, I will send you all the documents that I have for the jet.
I prefer to close this deal through Western Union ( i have an Western Union agent location next to me here in France). After I see that the money are available for pick up I'll proceed with shipping to your location.
You will have 3 days inspection.
Let me know if we have a deal.
Looking forward to hear from you soon.
    Best Regards
    Austin Schroeger

Ebay is starting to become shady. Theres way too much fraud going on now then in the beginning. I'm still very happy with many ebay purchases however people who sell things like "information on how to get a kenwood 911" and list it as a "Kenwood 911" ...you have to read the fine print on a lot of things these days.
My big pet peve is shipping. People are making their prices really low and then SLAMMING you on unsubstantiated shipping charges. This one person was going to charge me 20 dollars shipping for HVAC white faced guages. I asked him why it costs so much when it weight about as much as paper and can be sent USPS really cheap...he said it has to be shipped form Taiwan and warehouse fee's etc...I find that to be a bunch of bulldroppings...People are turing ebay from a great idea and place to shop to a place to go get taken...

      *end rant*

        Run Away!!!!!!!!

Be very aware that Western Union is NOT an escrow service. They will release money that has been sent to anyone that shows a reasonable id with the right name on it. They do not take any responsibility for the transaction, just delivering the money. There is no way for you to stop this from happening once the money has been sent.

This is a standard fraud ploy that has been around for years. If you have any question about the seller or it's product,..... keep shopping.

What really pi$$es me off is that I cannot e-mail e-bay about it. Since the auction number is no longer valid...( and that auction had 6 days left, os he must have taken it down) I can't tell them what is happening...

                I found this group 0n "cars-on-line.com" website

It was the exact same scam only it was for a 1970 GTO the photo was a mint I mean F-ing beautiful GTO! I was supposed to western union the deposit & the scammer was going to ship it via "Fed X" at his expense. When I e-mailed back "No way" he e-mailed me back saying to put the western union deposit in my wifes name, that way if I did not like the GTO upon inspection after fed x delivered it, my money would be safe because, hey, how could he get his grubby hands on it if it was in my wifes name at western unio. I couldn't believe this guy thought I was so stupid to have never thought he would just make up an I.D. with my wifes info. The only difference was that he was in the Chex republic, exact same scam, but for a GTO. Two days later I found another scam on a 442, same e-mail same details, same scam.

Basically the same thing is happening on boards such as this one as well. Over on ls1tech.com, they recently had a serious problem with newbies posting parts for sale and then taking peoples money never to be heard from again! So now they implemented a new rule that a user must have at least 100 posts before he/she may post something for sale.

                      Update

After doing some diggin on this possible fraud, aling with all your information, I found that the FBI is interested in tips on cases like these, so I submitted my experience along with the e-mails I received and what e-mail address they came from to the FBI.

If anyone else runs into morons like this in the future, report them...

How do you report to the FBI? Way back when i had to sell my eclipse, I had someone try that scheme where they send you a huge check then you send them the difference with the car. Blahty blahty blah..... If it happens again, i would like to report them.

Thank you for your submission to the FBI Internet
Tip Line. The FBI is aware of the many schemes
on the internet that involve overseas and the use of Western Union. Be aware of such offerings.

Submitted tips are received immediately, reviewed within minutes and prioritized by trained Professional Support personnel, and Agents set action leads within the hour, as appropriate.

We encourage you to share this information with your family, friends, and co-workers, and encourage them to not hesitate to submit information they may deem of interest to the FBI.

You can't report them to EBay because by the time you realize it is a fraud, the item is no longer listed, and EBay's e-mail form requires a valid ID number. Since the item is removed from auction, the ID number is invalid so you can't send them a message. Grrrrrrr
