  • Question about manual clutch and friction....

This isn't F-body but like many things, it may be useful for everyone. I'm building an off-road rig and have a tranmission (a NV3500 MG5) that came out of a 96 K1500 pickup with the 4.3L. But the engine I'm using is a 95 4.3L from an S-10. From what I can gather, they used the same NV3500 manual tranny, only with different codes (ie. M50 and MG5) which I think are for the gear ratios. My question comes in the clutches for the 2 different trucks. The S-10 clutch set runs for about $120 whereas the K1500 clutch runs for about $220. Big difference! These clutches are both 11" with 10 spline count input, and 1 1/8". But what got me wondering was the price difference. Are the clutches different in the sense of how hard they clamp? I guess the K1500 would need a stronger clutch but would that make the only difference? I would like to buy the S10 clutch b/c it's cheaper but I'm not sure if I could? Any ideas?

    Cheers!
