  • Lower control arms

This winter i plan on purchasing lower control arms for my 1994 camaro z28. I was wondering what are the best LCA to go with to improve my 1/4 times with this car? Also i have heard of many people suggesting LCA relocation Brackets. I was wondering if i should also purchase these and what is the best ones to go with or are they just for lowered cars since i am keeping the stock ride height?

My experience with the LCA relocation brackets on a stock ride height car was very positive. I had serious wheel hop without them, even though I was running a heavy box section LCA with poly bushings. I switched to the Spohn Performance tubular LCA's and LCA relocation brackets at the same time, and the wheel hop completely disappeared.

You need to think about how you use your car to choose the correct ends for the LCA's. The poly/poly combo is good for straight-line performance with some decent HP. But the poly/poly combo can cause some suspension bind when the body starts to roll, as it will in spirited street driving and cornering. In that case, and if you want absolutely no increase in harshness, try a rubber/poly combo. If you are willing to risk a little harshness and noise in return for better control, poly on one end and a spherical rod end on the other. For all out/high HP 1/4-mile use, spherical rods end on both ends.

Generally, "adjustable" LCA's are not necessary. There is not much to adjust. You could use it to make sure the axle is truly perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the car (thrust angle), but that is usually not a problem. You could also use the adjusment to move the axle front-to-back in the wheel opening, to improve clearance on large diameter tires.

With advice from Injuneer I went with Spohn and am very pleased. I did all the suspension in my sig at once and it feels like a new car. Even though it is lowered I have no wheel hop and the car handles the turns 1000X better. Big thumbs up for Spohn!!

Spohn now has a tubular shock tower brace available, in both fixed length and adjustable:

Rumor has it that he will soon have a tubular K-member and A-arms available.... I wonder if he needs someone to "test" them?

I would love to be a guinea pig, especially if their K-Member will clear Arizone Speed and Marine headers.......unlike BMR's!!!

Injuneer, I have a question for ya. I'm looking at suspension components this winter also, and am undecided on how to go with the ends. The car will be set up mainly for dragstrip applications, but I will also be slowly working my way into some NASA/SCCA small time stuff next spring hopefully. For these two reasons, I was thinking that a dual rod ended component would be the way to go. Thoughts??
