  • Technical Question

I need some assistance on my 1976 TA. I'm pulling the motor this weekend, but have run into a MINOR snag. I am pulling the motor/tranny as one piece.
The Chilton book states I have to remove the cross member under the transmission, but from the looks of it, I will also have to drop the front suspension to do this because the suspension in mounted on top of the cross member. Is this correct???
1967 Firebird. Needs a lot of work!

    Nope.

The crossmember goes from frame rail to frame rail under the seat area of the floor. It actually sits on top the frame rails if I recall correctly. We used to just take out the bolts from the frame and slide the entire thing back to work on the flexplate. (we took out the driveshaft first)

I hope my crappy memory is right.. It's been 10 years.

They are referring to the rear crossmember, you are looking the one at the front that is under the engine.
